Lots of relatives: Kochs, Waltons, and Johnsons (If, as I assume, those are all the “Fidelity” Johnsons.)
Is Israel part of Nevada? /s
How lovely, the Koch brothers are the wealthiest people in two separate states. So, you know, when they are backing politicians and legislation you just know they are doing it for the common good.
Infographics porn.
And the poorest person in each state?
Someday, my name will be on that map. And yours too!
And yours, and yours and yours and yours…
I was taken aback by that as well. The rich keep getting richer. Sigh.
Estate tax? What’s that?
“The rich keep getting richer. Sigh.” I want to suggest “The rich keep getting richer. VOTE!” Vote for candidates who will work to advance America and for the betterment of all Americans. Not just for their own small, self-interest.
My first thought was, before anything else: obscene.
Tea Party “leaders” have revived the old John Birch Society claim that “we’re not a democracy, we’re a constitutional republic.” This map provides their argument with an actionable plan.
Why not replace elected offices in each state with a constitutional fiefdom, granting it to the wealthiest local duke or duchess? After years of Reaganite brainwashing and economic policies that have concentrated our wealth into so few hands, we’re finally ready to reprise the principle of “divine rights.” No less a person than God is telling us that it’s time for us take this last final step toward federalist feudalism.
I think that’d be a tie.
The race for that is still running.
We do have visiting rich that might up the count for Montana a little.
On the outskirts of my small (and poor) community Charles Schwab built
a modest summer home (28,000 square feet) and developed a housing
community for the multi multi-millionaires (gated, guarded, and patrolled).
He has made common cause with another resident, Huey Lewis, to block
public access to several fishing areas (can’t have the great unwashed
bothering the rich and famous). They contribute little to the community
except to twist the county commissioners arms to expand the local
airport runway to accommodate corporate jets (they can’t be bothered
with the 42 mile trip from the airport in Missoula). Fuck em all.
But only if we all vote Republican, friend! Then you and me we’ll be on the map. (But let’s not let the other people figure out there are only 50 slots, we need their 50 million votes…)
What I don’t get is why would any billionaire want to live in sh%#hole states like Mississippi, Alabama, West Virginia, etc??
Abigail Johnson is indeed a third-generation ‘Fidelity’ Johnson (and currently president of one corner of the Fidelity empire).
Charles Johnson is the middle of three generations (and counting…) at another fund company, Franklin Resources. No relation to the Fidelity Johnsons. His father founded the company; Charles is chairman; his son is president and CEO.
I’m surprised the Mars family of M&M Mars doesn’t show up anywhere. They’ve spent a ton, along with the Waltons and others, to try to kill the estate tax.
Anne Cox Chambers still leads here in Georgia at $16.1 billion. She is the daughter of James Cox, the losing Presidential candidate to Warren G. Harding in 1920.
So, Mr. Gore, you know what you need to live up to. Make money, sir. Make lots and lots and LOTS of money.
Why is this a thing?
