Discussion: Many Americans Opting To Take Social Security Before Full Retirement Age

Thank goodness for unions and pensions!

The article seemed to say that most Americans aren’t retiring because SS won’t cut it for them and that they will work forever.

The penalties are harsh for drawing early and that is almost unfair as I see it but definitely a disincentive designed to not over burden the system.

I’m 54 and 65 seems like a long ways away but then again, so did getting to be 54 ; )
I’m saving hard.

While the retirement age has been rising in recent years, particularly for women, the average American still retires relatively early, at age 64 for men and age 62 for women, according to the Center for Retirement Research at Boston College.

Relative to what/who?
