Discussion: Manifesto-Writing Fugitive Found Camping On Wisconsin Farm

ā€œManifesto writing fugitiveā€? Now you have to hide from law enforcement to write manifestos?

He had a sword?! Probably not going to prove highly effective if he’s facing predator drones. But I suppose the same could be said of all his other freedom-protecting weapons.

Probably for ceremonial purposes…

I wonder how the residents feel about basic gun control safety measures?

how does gun control effect the robbery of gunshops? The shops already have some rules concerning ā€œinventory control.ā€ I’ve seen few gunshop that didn’t have bars on the windows, a security system and often, cement filled steel pipes out front to keep people from driving their cars through the front door.

Wacked out? sounds like he probably was pretty rational but with poor impulse control and little imagination in terms of effecting change of what is clearly a messed up system. as I recall, he was no fan or trump.

even if he were a black guy I’m pretty sure they wouldn’t have just shot up his tent without at least trying to get him to surrender. my guess is, the guy was like any little kid who runs away from home and then realizes living outside under a tarp w/o a plan was kind of silly. probably knew he’d be surrounded by morning. That being said, we had a cop here in wisconsin who went nuts and shot his love interest and a bunch of her friends and the other cops went to extraordinary efforts to avoid shooting dead him during his armed standoff. Efforts they never would have gone to for a non cop, much less a black dude.

They had to find something to distinguish him from all the other wackos around here.

Seriously, if I were sentenced to writing manifestos, I’d be a fugitive too.

Doesn’t the fact that the gun stores were robbed kind of underscore the futility of buying guns to protect one’s property?

Ever notice that Janesville produces more than its fair share of weirdos hell-bent on destruction?

I’m looking at you, Eddie.

ā€œWith the kind of weaponry he had, he could’ve done extensive damage,ā€ said Richard Erdman, owner of The Coin Shop, a pawn shop downtown. He said his wife had been avoiding the mall, fearing it could be the target of an attack.

Gee, Mr. Erdman. Statistics show that 3% of armed attacks are repelled by ā€œgoog guys with guns.ā€ Surely your wife, the missus of a purveyor of implements of murder supplied without conscience to whoever has the cash, would be one of that three percent. Amirite?

Good for the gun industry.

I mean, who needs a gun industry if there’s peace, right! Heaven help us if there’s a sudden outbreak of Christian values.

Will Mr. Gorn get the reward, or have to fight James Kirk again?

Kudos to law enforcement at local, state and federal levels – and for a humane resourceful farmer - to peaceably and cooperatively nabbing this guy. I know this area and terrain well and carrying out this mission well is s real accomplishment. Wish others could learn from it.
