This ad is perfect! Manchin is a natural politician and a perfect fit for West Virginia. He’ll win easily in November.
Whatever it takes…
Just to be nit picky and clarify, he used a rifle to shoot at Cap and Trade. He used a shotgun to shoot at the anti-Obamacare lawsuit.
Pretty sad if this is what it takes to sway a WV voter, symbolism triumphs over real substance…
But if that is what it takes, so be it…
Sure, there’s symbolism–and I love the background music–but Manchin is reminding voters of past substance (opposing Cap and Trade) and current issues (pre-existing conditions). Policy meets real people.
I hope he has the courage to vote against Kavanaugh. Unfortunately, it’s a rock and hard place choice for him.
My understanding is that the calculus is actually pretty simple. If Kavannaugh has enough votes to get confirmed without Democratic support then Manchin and the others can go ahead and vote for him because he’s going to be confirmed regardless. If by some miracle they don’t even have enough R votes then it won’t hurt them to vote against him too.
“Many Democrats say he should just become a Republican or get primaried.”
“Many Democrats” are exceptionally stupid.
That’s a shotgun, not a rifle. Durn librul media can’t even tell the difference.
This is my kind of Democrat.
The gun issue is costing democrats a lot of votes in rural areas and among hunters. Personally I’d like to see more stringent gun control but it’s not worth it to fight for it, not when we have to sacrifice so much. For example, many of those with rural hobbies like hunting and fishing are natural allies in environmental battles for clean air, clean water, and habitat preservation. But liberals alienate them with talk of gun control. Never mind that most democrats don’t want to restrict hunting weapons, it’s a slippery slope in their minds from assault weapon bans to hunting rifle and shotgun bans.
Generally yes, but I think “straight party-line vote” carries symbolic weight which would be valuable here.
DeVos was confirmed, but with a hell of an asterisk. I think it would mean a lot for Kavanaugh to carry the same stigma.
I think its real easy to point to apparent lies under oath from 2006 confirmation hearings.
I don’t think the vast majority of Americans give a damn about that anymore especially over the last several years when so little is ever bipartisan.
It’s a stigma to Democrats and a badge of honor for Republicans. Also, the stigma DeVos carries is much more about the colossally stupid things she’s saying and doing. I doubt many Americans know or care what her confirmation vote was.
Thank you! The headline is dead wrong, the Obamacare lawsuit was clearly the victim of a shotgun.
I don’t know if it’s a case of “liberal media” not understanding guns or generally journalists writing about things they don’t quite understand.
He better vote against Kavanaugh.
Maybe it’s a case of not giving a shit. I know I don’t have a single shit to give about what type of weapon was used.
I understand your point, but I could never bring myself to say “it’s not worth it to fight for it” about gun control.
Apples aren’t oranges, even if you don’t like either of them. They just aren’t.
For a lot of people it does no;t matter because a gun is a gun is a gun.
It just doesn’t matter.
