But he became much more critical of Blankenship when the facts came out about the disaster and the coal baron took the heat for those miners’ deaths.

Senator Manchin - another Profile in Courage.

Now, if the Senator had pointed out Blankenship lied about the disaster being caused by safety regulations and that his prosecution was political - that would have required courage.

The guy makes me sick, but he’s the best we can do in that state.

I know, better to have deplorodems like Manchin and Heidtkamp than a Republican who is an order of magnitude worse. On the other hand, when these right-wing Democrats eventually do lose to some genuine deplorable, I will not feel in the least bit anguished and look forward to future Democratic candidates in red states, who, though they may lose, more closely represent the progressive policies and platform of the Democratic Party.

Figures, he’s the first Dem to say he will vote to approve torture, er, Haspel.

“But he does seem to be looking to avoid antagonizing his on-again, off-again foe, while possibly looking to woo Blankenship supporters who don’t like Morrisey (or at least depress GOP support for Morrisey).”

Politics 101.

West Virginia sends Washington a vote for either a Dem senate majority leader, or a GOP one.

If Blankenship’s horrid, racist, no-good mob of supporters help Manchin “stick it” to Morrisey (and Mitch) – or at least sit home on Election Day – then it’s the former.

The latter does nothing but hurt the progressive agenda – and (literally) kill more Americans.

I can’t be outraged by this.

C’mon, Senator Manchin, let him have it with both barrels.

Blankenship wouldn’t kick his own mother in front of a bus to save a fare, but he’d definitely kick yours.

Because principle is more important than results, goshdarnit.

Thank you. Progressives seem to have trouble with Politics 101.

Anything Manchin needs to say or do to win in November is A-OK with me.

I agree. The consequences of two more years of Dotard-nominated judges is horrifying beyond belief. The Supreme Court is hanging by a thread, and the lower courts are rapidly being overrun by wing nut judges. To me, the situation is desperate.

Sad to say: we have to play politics too. Manchin is not a Democrat: more like a Republican who plays Democrat. That is the best that is on offer in West Virginia. Sad but true!!

And look who had the decency to show up in West Virginia after the Upper Big Branch mining disaster.

Smart move, stick to issues, not trashing people. The fact that we have a Dem in a place like WV is a good thing, any any votes he can get from the middle by not trash talking Republicans helps big time.

Manchin doesn’t have to trash talk, Blankenship. That’s already been done.

Doing what it takes to keep that seat.

The mark of a real politician.

With Schumer snarking wise on Twitter, and Manchin throwing haymakers like this, working and middle class people all around the country are looking at Democrats as the answer to their problems w/ the Democrats constant focus on the economy and all.

GO TEAM ‘D’!!!

Whatever you think of Manchin’s political positions and policies, he’s a crafty politician. He’s alienating his opponent from many potential voters by stroking Blankenship’s credentials as a true West Virginian compared to Morrisey’s. He doesn’t need to say what a true West Virginian he himself is. His audience knows it. How many Republicans will vote for Manchin now rather than that outsider pretending to be a WV Republican? And what true West Virginian gives a shit what us elitist liberal snobs think. Quite brilliant actually.
