Discussion: Manchin Breaks With Dems, Says He'll Vote For Pompeo As Secretary Of State

Guess he had to show loves his country more than he hates Trump.

Trump followed up with a tweet, calling Democrats “obstructionists.”

Supreme Court Justice Merrick Garland could not be reached for comment.

Oh course he will.

I can’t stand Manchin. If we didn’t need him as a Democrat to help us get back our majority, I’d throw that piece of shit overboard for anyone that didn’t suck up to Republicans in such an obvious way as that man. If Republicans in WV wanted Republican lite, you’d think they’d just go ahead and vote for the real thing.

There is nothing less patriotic than fulfilling one’s Constitutional duty of advice and consent!

He has an election to run. And since he hasn’t killed any miners or poisoned any stream with anything more than beer piss, he is in serious disadvantage,

Backbone of a jellyfish. Would vote for Charles Manson if he thought it would help his reelection bid.

I get that. And proving he’s on Trump’s side is of a piece with that, don’t you think?

“Grandpa, where were you when the War with Iran started?”

“Bitching about how with ‘Democrats’ like Joe Manchin we don’t need Republican’ts to set the fucking world on fire.”

Part of me wants to strap this jerk into a one-way jet pack programmed to fly, at high velocity, into an active vent on Mt Etna.

But the more rational side of me believes that; given that regardless of the committee vote, McConnell is going to bring this to the floor anyway, and given the reluctance of the GOP to to perform their checks and balance bit with regard to these grossly inexperienced and unqualified candidates, and in the unlikely event that Pompeo is defeated or forced to withdraw; any replacement for Pompeo would be a nominee far worse than him. The Trumpian barrel is abyssal, there is no limit on the depth of the muck into which he can plumb.

The GOP and Trump are insistent on setting themselves up for failure. Perhaps it’s best in the long run to simply allow them to fail and hope that the damage is minimal and that it can be repaired after regime change. This is not defeatist, it is simply realpolitik.

Is it any wonder he’s lagging so far behind the pack in fundraising?

I fucking hate him. Mark my words: If we take the Senate in November, this man is a fucking liability and has the potential to single-handedly fuck up the most overwhelmingly important thing we must do with the Senate in 2019-2020, which is block any and all SCOTUS nominees unless Trump swallows his own tongue and nominates Garland.

“Manchin Breaks With Dems…”

Wow, I didn’t see that one coming.

Is this a surprise? Maybe as much as Heidi Heitkamp’s decision to vote Aye for Pompeo. They are both poster children for self-serving politicians. To think this is a vote for God and Country is believe Donald Trump is a man of high moral character and marital fidelity.

Manchin is what he has always been — a man who plays to darkest fears of his constituents, and enjoys it. If the Senate remains Republican after 2018 and Manchin wins reelection, watch how fast he will switch parties – the man is pond scum, or should I say toxic waste!

I’m sure Heitkamp and Manchin will get tens of votes in their respective states for this principled stand.

If that was true he’d reveal opioid drugs were being taken off the market.

Yeah. Trump’s level of toxicity matches mercury. What’s the deal in WV with toxic stuff. They even have snake hqandling churches…

When Manchin does enormously shitty stuff like this I try to remind myself that the most important vote he’ll take, other than healthcare, is to decide who controls the Senate.

Fuck him. I’m not giving a goddamn dime to ANY Democrat until this guy is gone.
