Trial just in time for the midterms, right?

I’m not a lawyer, but . . . Dude.

Third graf says Manafort pleaded guilty…’ I wasn’t aware Manafort had pled guilty to anything yet. Is this a typo?

Manafort pleaded guilty last week to a separate superseding indictment brought against him in Washington, D.C., which includes charges of conspiracy against the United States, money laundering, failure to register as a foreign agent, and making false statements. That trial is set to begin Sept. 17. [Emphasis added.]

This typo is consequential. Manafort actually pleaded NOT guilty.

He has to decide which is worse - ending his days in prison, or risk being a liability to Russian oligarchs and Putin, but not in jail. At least in prison (because - tight case) he can die naturally sometime in the future. There was just another reminder to him about what happens to folks who give intell (as pleading would require) on Russian operations.

Oh man, I don’t know. If somebody was looking to whack me I wouldn’t want to be in prison. By definition there’s a high concentration of naughty people there.

Right?

When all the rest of your co-conspirators have pled out or plan to, you have no defense. That’s where Manafort is.

Wonder what the WH would look like if we swapped a fed pen for the current cronies. More functional, probably?

Fixed now. Best thing is to drop a note to the news comments line when you see something like that. They’re pretty responsive to it.

So true.

So my lawyery fellow commentors, I have a question. Since Manafort has chosen to plead “not guilty” do we the public get to know more or less information than if he had pleaded straight up “guilty”? I’m thinking we do since there has to be evidence put forth in argument of for or against. But I’d like to know how much to invest in popcorn stock before the trial starts.

I think I would take a well-educated white-collar con over Stephen Miller any day. Since the current cronies will start filtering into prison any day now, it’s a perfect time to set up some sort of exchange program.

I believe the Boxer. Awesome dogs. Manafort not so much.

It’s from seeing “The Wire.” Kinda makes it clear jail is not safe, either randomly or if someone’s after you. Witness protection program, that’s what I’d want. At least they’re trying to keep you healthy.
