Manafort does not face Club Fed. Usually Club Fed refers to Federal Prisons for White Collar convicts where living conditions are vastly superior to regular Federal Prisons where potentially violent felons are housed. The rule is though, that if you face more than 10 years, Club Fed is not for you. Manafort, under the minimum sentence for the original 12 count indictment faced more than 10 years. Now, with the new indictment it’s worse. If he goes to prison it will be a regular federal prison, and it will not be at all pleasant.
(If he goes to a U.S. Prison it will be a good deal better than if we extradite him to the Ukraine. The Ukrainians would like to try him for a capital offense, and if convicted, they’d execute him.)
