Manafort is right, there are a lot of gun owners who are terrified of the looming threat of home invasion, either by “inner city thugs” (know what I mean, wink wink) or by liberals confiscating guns. And maybe ISIS.
Tapper knows the fear is misguided and is not supported by fact.
The GOP knows the fear means their efforts to terrorize their base is working.

Agree with your analysis 100%. A note on the St. Ronnie quote, though. What Reagan actually said at his inaugural was "In this present crisis, government isn’t the solution. It’s the problem. The GOP and their media allies have done a very good job of clipping that qualifier off.
There’s also the other great mis-remembered Reagan quote, that he would cut government spending. What he actually said was he would cut the growth of government spending. (And in the end he barely did that…)
