Quick to judge
Quick to anger
Slow to understand
Ignorance and prejudice
And fear walk hand in hand…

“Fear”

Trying to claim victimhood.

If the apology was honest, this is a good thing. It’s one more person who might recognize tea baggery for what it is.

I have a picture of him the day he shot up the mosque:

Him actually going to the Mosque to deliver it is a positive sign ---- So many just profess to “the press” or “write a note” –

It is still, however, prior his sentencing — And it is naturally difficult to not to want to “cushion” one’s landing when falling —

Well this seems like a positive development to me, I wish him the best possible.

What exactly were his words? I won’t judge him … yet. We have witnessed all too often people who apologize “if I offended anyone,” blah, blah, blah,. That’ a disingenuous “apology” and they should know it – because the vast majority of the time, they fucking well meant to “offend” someone. So, what did this dude actually say to these folks? Thank goodness, btw, that the mosque was empty at the time.

Hakey told mosque members that fear is “always when you don’t know
something,” adding that he wished he’d taken the time to understand them
before acting.
…
In this case fear comes from ignorance
Fear is removed when understanding takes over. Understanding comes from investigation. Dang! the scientific method!
The way to remove prejudice is, I think, getting to know those you fear. Once Hakey understood that the Islam the majority of Muslims practice is a religion of tolerance and peace he realized his error and saw he had a need to apologize.

I believe he said, “My shots were taken out of context. But if anyone was somehow offended by those bullets, I apologize.”

It would be great if this is sincere. But I can’t help thinking he is anticipating what the Muslims in prison may think of his apology and feeling mighty nervous. If so how great would it have been had he thought about that before acting like an idiot to begin with.

Good thing he had a gun to act on his fears, real or imagined!

Well said, @darrtown. Well said. It sounds like that may have been the case here. Let’s hope we start hearing more of them. :+1:
