Yep. Rather sad when it’s no longer new.
Sick twist couldn’t find a school that was open on a Saturday
“And just to save you some time, NO TIME is the right time to discuss guns!”
The metaphor is the el that ran right in front of the flophouse apartment of Jake and Elwood Blues…
“You’ll get used to it. It runs so often you won’t know it’s there”
The Right has finally deadened us all to the slaughter. It happens so often it is now part of the Cultural Background. No point in even any speeches.
The only time it registers as a National Neurosis is when a person from somewhere else says something like, “You guys are out of your minds about your guns”…(which is what happened at the World Cup of Rugby recently).
Bernie Sanders basically pleaded, some days ago, for Democrats to “come out” (that term again) to vote Republicans out of Congress when he answered Chris Hayes valid observation that, because of Congress, the political action he would be advocating is blocked in the United States.
So they have to “come out” (for one day) to drastically improve their lives (which would include addressing the above-mentioned menace).
Tough row to hoe.
Now, if every single person on that street had been carrying, and every single person in every building had been carrying, and every single driver in every vehicle was carrying, this tragedy never would have happened.
Thanks NRA!!!
A man marching down the street shot and killed three people on Saturday
Saturday in America.
Shooting witness Betty Barker said she saw a man approach a boy on a bicycle in front of the house and shoot him.
"He turned around and shot the boy, and the boy screamed, “Why did you shoot me?” Then he shot him three more times and as he hit the ground he screamed,
“Oh god, no,”
American Exceptionalism says that every word you typed above can be safely dismissed, and that the individuals you named are modern day Benedict Arnolds.
“But we can discuss how quickly we send thoughts and prayers each and every time.”
Just an open carry proponent and strict constitutionalist. Only idiot liberals think the right to “bear” arms means you can carry a gun but not use it.
Plot twist:
He WAS the good guy with a gun… Until he became the bad guy with a gun.
At least the murderer’s gun rights are protected by conservative Republicans.
God knows they’re not protecting anybody else.
Some time ago I decided to email (one a week, got the idea from Shawshank Redemption) to my Congress critter concerning the ongoing slaughter. She has offered a bill, a pittance about keeping guns away from insane people. It won’t go anywhere. Nothing will change. She has yet to answer any of those emails.
The NRA wants us all to be afraid, heavily armed and paranoid of each other and they’re willing to destroy our society in the pursuit of money.
I’ve been in gun fights. My home was invaded. Yet still I want gun control because we humans are a violent species. We deny our better natures at every turn.
The slaughter will go on and the NRA will be happy it is.
That’s one problem, not the problem.
I’d add such concerns as:
-
Any gun out in an area where many people are in range of a shot is a danger. We already know that people carrying weapons sometimes: forget that they are loaded; drop them; catch them on things; leave them where a child or a dangerous person might find them; get mugged; are intoxicated; are angry; or are suicidal. All of those situations increase the chance of a bullet flying into flesh.
-
Anyone carrying a gun around in an area with competent policing is so unlikely to have a constructive use for the weapon that I have to assume that they have poor judgement. Even assigning a probability of near zero to the dangers in (1) above, to see any benefit to the hassle of lugging a gun around requires one to greatly exaggerate the likelihood of encountering a threat where the gun is useful and necessary. What other threats are they exaggerating? Do I seem like a threat to them? Think of how you would react to seeing someone entering a grocery store with a serious crossbow and quiver of sturdy bolts. Why the fuck are they carrying them around with them?
-
Much related to the above, someone practicing open carry affects the behavior of those around them. Because you can’t evaluate the actual threat (don’t know if the gun is loaded, don’t know the person’s state of mind, etc.), but the potential threat is very high, the safe bet is to shut up, don’t make eye contact, and retreat to a safer point until you can get a better sense of the actual threat from the overall behavior of the person with the gun. How do you react when driving and you see a car ahead do a little weave? Maybe the other driver is just groping on the floor for a dropped item, but you probably will take some action that puts you in a better position to avoid getting hit by an intoxicated driver.
Any of us can probably add to the list.
Fixed it. But I know what you meant.
If they kill the guy how are they supposed to take him to Burger King afterwards? They never think before they shoot.
You probably know that SMERSH was a real group. It was an acronym for a Russian phrase “Death to spies”.
They’re the ones who killed Trotsky in Mexico – with a climbing pick to the skull.
And who knows how many other poor, dumb bastards they killed with a bullet to the base of the brain?
Good post. Alas, calm, rational thinking has no place with gun cultists.
“This is the price we pay for freedom.” The Republican party
What’s wrong with the world?
They were with KAOS.
