What a doofus! If you cannot see your target and do not warn your target that you have a gun aimed at him, you’re shouldn’t own a gun.

How about instead of going outside to investigate, you pick up the phone and call the police? Why is this not an option? I’d love to know what the stats are of people who were able to successfully defend themselves/their families with a gun vs. those who’ve accidentally shot a friend or family member and those who’ve had their weapon taken from them and used against them.

Im not sure how it can b e assault if you think you are shooting a trespasser who has ignored your orders to stop.
And I am still wondering what is going to happen when one of those nincompoops who dress up as Sasquatch to fool their friends ends up getting killed by gunfire. Murder? Manslaughter? Death by misadventure???

Correct, he was not defending his home. If they come to the door and try to get in, THEN you have a right to defend your home. In this case, you call the police and wait in your home. And again, if they start breaking down the door before police arrive and you can’t see who they are and are not responding to you, then a use of a firearm to “defend” your home is warranted.
I will say the “friends” were idiots too. They must know this guy has a gun, why would you sneak up on his house at night and play games like that. Real stupid.

Police might shoot YOU if YOU are black ! But if this guy is white, he’s just too stupid to own a gun and use it wisely and too stupid to know when to call police when an emergency strikes, and probably too stupid to come in out of the rain.

If one has a gun in one’s home, one person in or closely related to that home by relationship to that home is 17 (SEVENTEEN) times more likely to be shot with a gun than those in homes without any guns.
