I usually wholeheartedly endorse oddball endeavors like this, but this character appears to have been woefully unprepared and ill-informed. He took off in prime hurricane season in a vessel that pretty much has the windage characteristics of a beach ball and part of his provisioning plan was apparently to do some fishing along the way. He is lucky he never made it any further than coastal Florida.

Whoda thunk that things like the ocean’s currents would’ve caused such a huge problem with, what’s in essence, a giant beach ball?? Weird!

Good lord! Fearlessness turns to foolishness. I wonder if he habitually has trouble with estimating personal risk – like a “bug” in his cognitive abilities? And if that’s the case, I wonder if it’s a common feature in some idealist-activist personalities like his?
Hmmmm.
At any rate, I’m glad he’s safe. And I hope he stays that way.
I’m guessing he uses part of the funds he raises as income to live on. Speaking of raising funds, its kind of a glaring omission that no mention was made of how much money he has raised from his many adventures, or misadventures might be a more apt description.
Those bubbles are better suited for crowd surfing than the ocean.
He could have ended up setting an air-travel distance record for an unpowered heavier-than-air craft.
I don’t know about the beaches on the Gulf and East coasts, but I don’t think I’ve ever experienced a day on a West coast beach where you could actually use a beach ball. Even a 2mph wind is too much – that is 3 feet/second, and a beach ball will blow away almost as fast as the wind.
I have yet to see anyone express any outrage at the cost of this clown’s shenanigans to the taxpayer. The Coast Guard had to deal with him twice, with both plane and helicopter. That’s a pricey proposition, one for which this dunce should be liable.
