It’s the gays’ fault, obviously.

Lovers will be asked to replace padlocks with 8-12 digit passwords.

Shackled to each other for eternity. How romantic.

I think Meatloaf had a few words to say about that concept. “Praying’ for the end of time,” indeed.

Can’t be! Me and my husband put our lock on most Biskupa Jordana in Poznan, Poland. The gays all know Paris is passe.

This is the best news I’ve heard today. Pont des Arts is a beautiful public space. It was not meant to be vandalized by individuals seeking to use public space for their own purposes–and to impose that on the rest of us. The locks were just another example of the epidemic of narcissism that afflicts us.

About time. Bridge locks are no different than spray-tagging buildings and natural rock formations (both of which we deal with locally). Its 3-D graffiti, ugly, and disrespectful to everyone else.

when asked, 5 Republican presidential candidates said they also supported removing locks from the Panama Canal.

South Koreans were so enamored of the “love lock” idea that they started their own version of it at the base of Seoul Tower. The fences are covered in many layers of locks, and they erected a few “lock trees” - metal posts that have so many locks-on-locks-on-locks attached that they look like evergreen trees.

The fad is officially supported by the Seoul Tower tourism staff, as they sell the locks in their store for about eight bucks.

My girlfriend and I have a lock on the fence line somewhere. It made her happy, so totally worth it.

This is such a stupid tradition. Beyond idiotic. I wish they would arrest vandals who do this. If there is a special place (like a lock tree), that’s OK - I wouldn’t do it, but you can. But on a bridge? Stupid.

Over 45 tons of locks?!?!?!? Authorities were right to remove them. Better to show your love each day to your beloved than some stupid piece of metal connected to another piece of metal.

One of many examples in modern life of something that might have been sort of cool when the first couple did it, but became absurd when taken to excess.

Good for Paris and high time. This vandalism has spread all over. They ave been fighting on the Ponte Vecchio for years (somewhat more successfully since they got on it early) These ‘love locks’ make lovely Paris bridges look like garbage dumps.

stupid idiots have started doing this to the Brooklyn Bridge as well. just beyond dumb.

Damn right. A lock should be between a man, a woman, and her chastity belt.

Such locks damage the bridge. They shouldn’t be allowed not only in Paris. It could be “translated” as vandalism.

It was particularly repulsive, because the Pont des Arts is such a lovely structure.
