Discussion: Louisiana's Dem Governor Signs Anti-Abortion 'Fetal Heartbeat' Bill Into Law

Tools, that’s good one. Dad entered through the Holloway midshipman program. He was a shop major. Mom’s family convinced him to take a few college prep courses. The Navy said, “we’ll send you to college and teach you to fly airplanes.” dad thought that would be cool, so he did.

I can’t remember learning the names of tools. I’ve always known how to use them. I have a picture of my dad sitting on the floor of the house my family was helping my wife and I build, with my now 28 year old niece with kids of her own, sitting on his lap, at 4, installing an electric outlet. She was installing it, he was showing her how.

He also said the naval academy takes 18 year old men ad turns them into 22 year old boys. He always felt those officers had so little life experience they had no idea what their enlisted men went through, what their problems and worries were.

Enjoy your evening.

It might be inappropriate to judge others’ religious beliefs, especially for an unaffiliated person like me. Still, I always think those who use religious beliefs to justify interfering with other people’s life either fail to grasp the essence of religion (in my understanding, religions are a way to seek inner peace/self-improvement) or are purely evil.

I’ve taken to referring to the GOP as “The Rape Party.” I don’t think even mildly controversial or inflammatory to do so.

Having been raped, I can’t go quite that far, but certainly don’t object to your doing so.

This is going to hurt male candidates in the Democratic Primary. The vibe I’m getting from women after all these abortion restriction bills is that they’re coming to the conclusion that the only way to protect abortion rights is to do it themselves. If that attitude takes hold among the Democratic electorate, Harris and Warren will race to the top. There’s little reason to trust men on this issue. Even 538 had some article out there about how Dems should compromise on abortion. Those days and that debate are over and a lot of women are going to vote like they mean it on that issue.

While this is probably true anyway, he (and quite a few of the Dems in the legislature) seem to be true believers. Quite unlike Alabama, probably because of the Catholic Dems in La.

Suelzberger likes his tax cuts, and finds AOC and Warren scary.

Baquet is a company man and does whatever he thinks will keep the boss happy.

It is a deeply hierarchical structure internally. Any explanation of decisions made starts at the top.

What does your catholic faith say about you using viagra?
Your catholic faith stops at the end of your lips!

Doesn’t his Catholic Christina faith also require him to Oppose the Death Penalty?

Has he signed a bill removing the death penalty yet? NAH… I didn’t think so… HYPOCRITE

Indeed, sister. I laid into a male, pro-Trump, friendly acquaintance recently with: “Can you get pregnant? Do you get a period? When you can do either of those things, I’ll listen to what you have to say on the subject. Until then, you don’t know a fucking thing about it, so kindly sit down and be quiet. I can take care of my own body.” He stopped talking.

We need to totally quit calling Edwards a Democrat. He’s not. We need to start calling him, as the French say, I don’t know what.

Your Catholic faith also requires you to protect children from sexual predators. Instead, you venerate Pope John Paul II, the man who oversaw the priest abuse cover-up for 25 years, as a saint. Fuck you and fuck your religion.

It doesn’t matter if we have a governorship if the governor isn’t actually a Dem. Fuck this guy. He needs to lose the next election.

He needs to be Primaried.

Religio-loons and Government don’t mix.

These bills will be deemed unconstitutional and Bel Edwards will be reelected in a walk.

Indeed.

Remind me again why Dems support civil rights?

"The protests in Rhode Island came after a state Senate committee dominated by Democrats just refused to advance a bill protecting the rights established by Roe v. Wade.

Hawaii Democrats, who hold a legislative supermajority, failed earlier this year to pass a bill allowing nurse practitioners to perform abortions.

And two setbacks occurred in Illinois and New Mexico, where Democrats gained trifecta control of the government in the 2018 midterm elections and raised hopes that they could accomplish long-sought progressive goals."

Here’s what “Blue No Matter Who” gets you. Republicans with a “D” stamped on their forehead.

The rebuttal from the article is this. Of course, anyone who’s really unhappy with the inconsistency of Democrat’s position of abortion rights could join the party whose position is clear and unwavering. Those are the choices

In Maine and Nevada, where Democrats newly control the government, and in Vermont, lawmakers have successfully overturned pre-Roe bans on abortion or expanded existing abortion rights. Wisconsin’s new Democratic governor vetoed a raft of Republican-backed restrictions on abortion.

I completely agree, until I remember that the governor of Alabama was a woman and she signed that bill into law.

There’s no place to turn for women wanting to protect reproductive rights when women in power won’t protect women.

Women in power want to retain that power and it can only be done with the support of the men in power
