Discussion: Louisiana Guv Signs Order Expanding Medicaid

Discussion for article #244575

More please. Donā€™t stop there. While your balls are on the table, sir, please tell the Teatrolls to shine them: issue an executive order regarding gun safety (or something similarly likely to cause them to go nuts).

Red State America is wondering what this unfamiliar concept of helping poor, vulnerable people is? Maybe thereā€™s something about it in that Bible they claim to love so much?

This is great news. Thank you Governor!

I wouldnā€™t expect anything like sanity on guns from this conservative Blue Dog Dem. But the Medicaid expansion alone puts his him waaaaay ahead of anything Jindal did for Louisiana in eight years of misrule.

This is a great way for Democrats in deep blue states to show how they can govern in a way that differs from GOP disaster.

I very much hope some smart reporter will spend the next four years chronicling the differences, good and bad, between Kentuckyā€™s regression on Obamacare and Louisianaā€™s progression. I imagine it would be quite interesting to see how Louisianansā€™ health improve as Kentuckiansā€™ health declines. In four years, will LA have better participation, enrollment, plans available, and outcomes then the state that was once the Obamacare model for the nation? Or will it be a push?

And letā€™s not stop with healthcare. Iā€™d also like to see economic metrics as KY goes full blown Tea Party and LA sobers up. Iā€™ve certainly got a dog in this fight, but I would think a juxtaposition of this kind, two red states traveling down very different paths, could be the kind of thing Pulitzer Prizes are made of.

You really have to be a horseā€™s a** not to accept Medicaid for your people. Iā€™m looking at you, Texas.

The anti-government Governor in Ky is about to hand over healthcare to the government he hates.

How ironic

I am looking at Georgia.

Anyone miss Jindalā€¦anyoneā€¦ I thought so.

Good. This doesnā€™t let the former governor/sociopath off the hook for hurting people for no reason.

Perfect model for those in states (like mine - Missouri) who havenā€™t taken the Medicaid expansion. Elect the right people to get the stuff that makes sense. Pretty simple really.

The move comes as other red states such as Alabama are warming up to Medicaid expansion and Kentucky Gov. Matt Bevin Ā® recently backed down from his campaign promise to dismantle the Medicaid expansion there.

OK, maybe Iā€™m coming around to the Republican standpoint that Medicaid shouldnā€™t be expanded into these generally conservative states. I think Medicaid is a great program and donā€™t want to see it driven into the ground by the generally higher rates of poverty in the 'I hate government" states. I also donā€™t want to add to the cognitive dissonance plaguing conservatives, who rely on government assistance, but donā€™t want the government.

And Tennessee.

And then he gave a salute to his predecessor, Piyush Jindal:

"So long Piyushā€¦

Bobby who?

I donā€™t think anything will change in Kentucky. The medicaid expansion will go forward. And Obamacare-eligible Kentuckians will still get their Obamacare insurance; they will just sign up on a website managed by HHS rather the the Kentucky government. Am i missing something here?

I donā€™t think the governor has been able to get the Medicaid extension done.
