Discussion: Louisiana Dem Guv Poised To Sign First Ever 'Blue Lives Matter' Law

I would have to study this but if all ‘groups’ are put into a ‘protected class’ then isn’t that the same as just having everyone equal? The problem I have is protecting police from the public which is what many of these laws end of doing. The police can do ‘anything’ in the name of the public good while the public has no recourse against them…

WHAT. THE. F*CK???

By definition, the job of any LEO involves risking their life. If their job involves dealing with crime, in general, how can they be a protected class? Someone needs to take this to court.

But who’s going to protect us from the police?

But if you outlaw attacking police, then only outlaws will attack police.

Or something.

2nd Amendment be damned.

Great. Can we get one to protect Bosses and Landlords too? And Bankers and Shysters? And RW talk radio hosts? Asshole Lives Matter.

A policeman has a choice to be or not to be a cop. Unless I am very much mistaken a black person does not have that option.
In this case then if a cop is a protected group…how’s about retired university lecturers? (#smart lives matters)?

I too will take time to review and consider this but at first pass my thoughts are that the police already have plenty of protection from the public and killing a LEO is a huge no no. Unfortunately it’s not viewed as the big no-no that it was in the nineteen thirties.

But just as shooters rights advocates claim that more regulation of firearms will not prevent crimes I fail to see how additional legislation to protect LEOs is going to have much positive movement in that direction. At best it’s just legislative feel good and at it’s worst it further emboldens the few bad LEOs in uniform.

Finally! District attorneys and police departments in Louisiana will now be able to jump right to prosecuting attacks against police officers instead of ignoring them, like in the rest of the country. No more will they be filed away as accidents or brushed aside because the perpetrators say it went differently.

After so many years of neglect, the police officer might be able to count the police as a friend and ally instead of someone to be feared. At least in Louisiana.

Buck said that “many criminals have committed or attempted the murder of police officers solely based on the color of their uniform.”

Fortunately there is no record of any police officer ever committing or attempting the murder of a person based solely on the color of their skin.

Since black lives matter and blue lives matter, too, there’s only one solution to this impasse:

We must ensure that all blacks are as well-armed as those in blue at all times.

I’m sure the NRA would approve, no?

This is a solution in search of a problem. There are already very stiff penalties for assaulting or killing a police officer. If I walk up and slap an innocent person walking down the street I’m likely to be charged with misdemeanor assault. If I walk up and shove a police officer I’m probably going to be charged with felony assault of a police officer. There is already an aggravator in place and thus no need for additional laws. This is as someone else said, “a feel good law”.

The funny part here is that not all Law Enforcement Officers wear blue. Some wear white shirts with black pants. Others wear brown uniforms, like most of the Sheriff’s Departments in KY. There are even a few departments who wear all black. So, I’m going out on a limb here and saying no one has ever injured or killed a cop because of the color of their uniform. On the other hand, there are numerous incidents where people have murdered someone because of their skin color, religion, LGBT status, gender, etc.

I’m pretty sure that you get the death penalty for killing a cop in Louisiana already. What are they gonna do - drag the bodies around behind a police car after the execution?

This is a 2-way street…LEOs (Slager) commit Hate -crimes… will they punished for it?
This link is not to suggest that all LEOs kill black men discriminately. Or that black men are all innocent BUT

THANK YOU!!! I’m in disbelief these idiots think “hate laws” are needed for a PROFESSION!!! This is truly f’d up and insane.

And I’m sorry, but if there is EVER already a protected “profession” out there already, it’s first responders. Jesusrollerbladingchrist!!!

If anyone needs protection based on what they do for a living, it’s sex workers.

people terrorizing and threatening police officers on social media just due to the fact that they are policemen.

Well, it sounds like they want to prosecute speech against the police as hate speech. I also imagine that “resisting arrest” will become a hate crime with automatic sentencing built in.

So much for the Law Enforcement Bill of Rights.

I can easily see this becoming a charge wielded much like the “resisting arrest” charge.

Good point. I have the same concern about allowing the bad apples taking advantage of such status. I already thought that murdering an officer called for the death penalty. Seems like this is just a political statement and an “In your face,” to the Black Lives Matter movement. Just another dig to make a tense situation more tense. Thanks Guv.
