Rubles for nothing, and the checks for free…

Apparently, Mr. Manafort doesn’t have any wonderful, charitable friends who are top-flight attorneys who will work gratis.
But that’s OK, because more money into a legal fund means more money for billable hours for greedy Republican-supporting lawyers! Win-win!

“A legal defense fund has been set up for former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort by his ‘long time friends’…”

You might even call them “comrades” of his.

Someone needs to start a GoFuckYourself account for Paul Manafort. The donations will number in the billions.

The fund’s donation page helpfully reminds donors to convert their rubles to bitcoin for donations.

Bullshit. Lifetime fly-by-night shady dealers like Paul Manafort have no friends.

Any leftovers from the contributions will go the ACLU and The Brain Trauma Fund

I googled ‘The Brain Trauma Fund.’ There’s a ‘Brain Trauma Foundation,’ but no ‘The Brain Trauma Fund.’

And I find the ACLU a curious choice for any leftover funds.

ETA–Hello, TPM! The website says ‘Foundation,’ not ‘Fund.’

Yea, I can’t tell where that came from.

It’ll be interesting to see if Trump or any of his family members donate anything to Manafort’s legal defense fund. Do they owe him anything for helping Trump win the GOP nomination? After all, Manafort was working for Trump’s campaign free of charge - right? If Trump was worried about “spies” in his campaign, he should have been worried about work-for-free Manafort - maybe Roger Stone told Trump it was ok.

Leftovers? I suppose they could just fill in whatever charitable agency they want. There won’t be any scraps left after the attorneys cash their checks.

Manafort was brought into the campaign via the founder, chairman, and CEO of Colony NorthStar Thomas J. Barrack Jr., a sleazy slumlord billionaire who is one of President Trump’s oldest friends.

I wonder if he’ll be contributing?

Brain Trauma? Perhaps a hint as to the direction the defence will be taking.

Manafort has long time friends? More like associates, I’m sure. Maybe if he hadn’t absconded with millions of dollars, hid his payments in offshore accounts and failed to pay taxes on that money for which he owes millions more, I’d think he was entitled to access to this type of fund. But any money he gets from this fund, should go for back taxes he owes first, imho. So boo-hoo, poor little rich boy, wanted to live the high life and now has to pay the piper. Fuck you, Manafort. What goes around, comes around.

The Paul Manafort Defense Fund was established “to assist Paul and his family in meeting the tremendous legal costs resulting from the proceedings commenced against him by the Office of Special Counsel following the historic 2016 Presidential Election.”

“The Trust will maintain strict confidentiality of the identity and information of those who choose to contribute,” the website said. Any leftovers from the contributions will go the ACLU and The Brain Trauma Fund, per the website.

Keep your friends close. Keep your enemies closer.

There are people that would like Manafort’s fight against these charges to be protracted, nasty, and litigated to the best of the defense’s capabilities. People with a vested interest in all that that have the money to see to it it happens.

Maybe some of those people spend their days in the White House.

Because Russian oligarchs don’t want any more publicity.
