If he cared about the American people who would loudly point out to the American people and the press the kind of nutjobs that populate his party these days. The kind of nutjobs Republicans are electing.

Maybe the decent, non-crazy Republicans who don’t hate the country will decide to create a new party that actually wants to govern, instead of just trying to break everything in a tantrum.

What a bunch of pathetic, worthless pieces of slime.

Frankly, I’m not sure that there are any adjectives which appropriately describe just how subhuman and despicable these losers are.

And they’re in charge.

So much for the favorite republican line, “Nobody’s forcing you to work here.”

That’s it–we have a Boehner for life!

I’m probably not up on my rules of choosing a speaker, but if the entire body of the House gets to vote, I say the Dems secretly select someone, force a vote then with their majority (being that the GOP is incredibly fractured in their vote) end up with a Dem winning the speaker seat. Wishful thinking probably.

Of course, if the GOP was willing to have an open election for speaker, it’s entirely possible that the few GOP moderates left and the Democrats might just elect somebody. There is no rule that says the House Republican Caucus must approve the candidate before he or she is voted on by the whole House. That’s sorta the way a representative government is supposed to work…which, of course, explains exactly why the GOP doesn’t want to have anything to do with it.

No matter how long he stays, the NYDN perfectly covered Boehner’s legacy:

I said the other day I wondered if Boehner could end up keeping the job, but I didn’t know that his resignation would hinge on the election of a new Speaker.

Keep your friends close and your enemies closer?

Hope he did.

John Boehner had a week and a half to start planning his golf vacation, and scrubbing the stink of this rebellious congress off of himself. He’s not going to stay ONE DAY LONGER than he needs to, even if he has to beg Nancy Pelosi for votes.

If the job sucks so bad, why not let Pelosi have the job? It sounds like the Republicans would be torturing whoever wins.

You also mean, “Nobody here will force you to work!”

No one has copy editors any longer. It’s embarrassing across the board.

John, do a longterm budget deal and debt limit extension with Nancy, and the House GOP would quickly nominate a Speaker of the House candidate. Moving the long-delayed immigration bill and a reauthorization of the Export-Import Bank bill to the floor for a vote would guarantee you could retire by Halloween!

Just heard a rather mind-numbing report on NPR where the guy actually says Boner “may have to postpone his retirement to sunny southern Florida.” As if.

I would like some astute reporter to ask him: “So, Mr. Speaker, which lobbying firm will you be collecting a $3 million salary from?”

As if the crazies will be less crazy in 2017. They are getting worse and more divided, by 2017 they may not be able to pick their collective nose.
