With respect, is this really a story?
I think this is the story–but it’s the story of this nation that thus far as willed the easy access to weapons supersedes all other consideration:
"It’s just a regular neighborhood.”
“I believe there were some weapons found and maybe some ammunition,” Mesquite police officer Quinn Averett told reporters at a press conference…There’s nothing out of the ordinary,”
Yup, nothing out of the ordinary.
In Nevada, particularly the smaller locales, he’s right.
Was she aware that he was loosing his grip with reality and did she tell anyone? Apparently, not his brother.
Did she know he had all these weapons? How could she not?
@jakebarnes sometimes people will deliberately turn a blind eye to things (and direct others to do so) so their own lives may go on without disturbance
who among us does not have weapons and ammunition in our homes?
A terrorist in the time-honored American way–freelancing.
This is exactly what we learned was the case in the aftermath of the Sandy Hook school shooting. At least the ex-husband/father and surviving brother had reason to be concerned but turned a blind eye.
This is why I want to know what the partner knew, and when did she know it.
Somebody pissed in the shooter’s Post Toasties and set him off. He didn’t just open fire and start killing as simply as turning on the TV or grabbing a beer.
If it was the music, he likely would’ve fired on the stage. If it was cops he would’ve shot uniformed officers. If it was race or religion, he wouldn’t have just shot randomly into a crowd.
It seems the guy just decided to clock out and tried to take as many with him as possible, but again, I’m saying-something set him off.
Dunno. I do.
Target archery, it’s a thing.
Yes, plus this is Vegas. Maybe he lost all his money gambling and decided to off himself, but also make headlines on his way out. He clearly was not looking to survive this event, only to take out as many people as possible before he ended his own life.
Lots of possibilities on motive, all speculation at this point.
White Male Invisibility. It’s a superpower.
She was out of the country… not with him. There may be a relationship falling apart there. How could a person living in the same house – or spending time there, not notice an arsenal being assembled.
It’s not a 1-to-1 correlation, but living in a heavily forested area awash with black bears, it tends to be the rightwingers who are paranoid of being attacked and thus assemble arms depots. I’ve seen dozens while out running and enjoy viewing the goofballs from a good distance, and when I tell the nuts about it they think I’m insane not to carry a weapon with me. No matter how many times I remind them that they’re essentially vegetarian and more afraid of us than vice versa, I can’t change their minds.
So yeah, household stockpiles aren’t necessarily out of the ordinary.
Me. The compound bow is in the garage.
This event is pure terrorism and it soils the entire constitution to have the second amendment. But our politicians are pure cowards and share responsibility for this.
Indeed – no weapons cache or explosives. White guy, so no Koran, prayer rug or black lives matter pamphlets. Just your ordinary old fart living in a typical gated retirement community… except he went and murdered 58 people (present count).
What will Alex Jones have to say about this?
Its simply too late to be raiding the guy’s house or talking to his family.
Where were the authorities when he stockpiled all these weapons and ammo? And what did they expect when they went all Wild Wild West and removed all restrictions and regulations?
We have to wear seat belts and helmets, obey speed limits and a myriad of limiting laws but somehow we are acting unconstitutionally if we apply the same common sense to lethal weapons.
Regulating such deadly devices and having strict legal requirements would be just using our basic smarts and an effort to react to the reality around us.
We wouldn’t allow anything else as destructive or deadly to continue. People die in car crashes so we have laws. Cigarettes killed possibly millions so we have laws and we sued them and won. Even something as simple as soda pop has been recognized for its inherent deadliness and we are actively beginning to limit it.
There is no more need for discovery concerning the danger of lethal weapons especially of the assault type.
Hell, its right in the name.
