“and he’s RICH!”
Wearing empty suits.

Trump is a latter day Palin with a few more brains. Recall that Palin made a huge media splash at first and then fizzled when probed for details. Trump has had a longer run, but when asked about details, it’s like the Wizard of Oz behind the curtain. The policy details are going to kill Trump, he is AS DANGEROUS as Palin.
I thought you said Kurds, because I think the Kurds have been poorly treated by us, Hugh but I’m gonna treat them to dinner at one of my fabulous resort hotels and make it up to them.
Remember when candidate Bush failed his foreign policy pop quiz? Look how that turned out.
Yes, I saw that too, when she was talking to Chris Hayes. But I fear they are falling into the trap of believing that people who want to vote for Trump really care about whether his press-conference handouts were made by Kinkos or professionally printed. Most regular folks wouldn’t notice I bet. And the strong anti-intellectual streak in many conservative voters is served well by Trump’s approach.
Honestly, I don’t think a present day candidate with the intellect of, say, a Jefferson or Madison, could get elected. At the least they would have a hard time overcoming the disadvantage of intellect. Especially if they were openly a Deist, or for heavens sake [pun intended] an atheist. On the other hand, dunce cap wearers like GW Bush - no problem.
Progressives and liberals appear to consistently make the mistake, magnanimous though it may be, that the electorate is collectively more sophisticated than it really is.
What you say is true. People who follow him don’t care about larger matters or world affairs. They approve of everything he says, no matter how uninformed. And this will never reach their shell like ears.
Mr. Trump concluded his interview with a touch of his trademark bravado, promising to become an authority on their names as president.
“If they’re still there, which is unlikely in many cases, but if they’re still there, I will know them better than I know you.”
He added, “I will be so good at the military, your head will spin.
“I don’t know the facts but Eric Holder never should have been elected with that gun policy of his”
Trump’s mind: “I’m guessing someone from the Godfather. Or maybe the guy in Amadeus?”
Doesn’t matter what he says about which topic. He’s their best chance of punching the hippies (so they think, he’s actually a bit of a hippie himself) and so they’re sticking with him. He’ll go out there early and often and not give a crap about accountability for what he said. Because he has the “fuck you” money to do that. That’s the other part about him that they like.
A lot of the writers I read are fretting at this point that they can’t envision any oppo research or misstep that could stop him at this point, his supporters wouldn’t be swayed by anything like that. And that’s quite possibly true, but I think they’re forgetting that Palin made a big splash too and impressed the base quite a bit, but she also became a laughingstock almost instantly and that was the end. Trump’s there already, with anyone whose mind isn’t perverted by years of propaganda from inside the bubble. I mean, listen to that interview—within 24 hours of taking office he’ll know everything there is to know! He’s a loudmouth clown, the kind of person about 19 people out of 20 find laughable and repellent. I’m not basing my optimism here on the public’s political sophistication, trust me, but on their experience with various personalities through their lives. Most people don’t know anything about governance or world affairs, but they’ve sure as hell met immature, needy, reality-denying people, and that’s what we’re dealing with here, and most people see it clearly. At least I hope so!
In the old movie, “Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines”, the marvelous German character actor Gert Frobe [better know for Goldfinger] portrays an incompetent Prussian military officer who is never up to a new challenge and fails miserably at whatever he takes up. But his refrain is: “There is nothing a German officer cannot do.”
Rank of position equals capability and perspicacity in the minds of some.
This was a completely unfair question, Mr. Hewitt was being mean to Mr. Trump. I’m pretty sure he had blood coming out of his wherever. Hewitt is mean and unprofessional and should apologize to the Donald.
Oh, quite—Hewitt better mind his step or he’ll be mean-tweeted back to the Stone Age.
Just like GWB, he’s a dumb fuck rich guy that’s only where he is because of his dad’s money. Not a fucking clue or idea about what’s what in the world or business.
And he doesn’t know a fucking thing about what’s going on in the Middle East but he’ll get good people…how’s he going to know they are good, what questions will he ask them and how will he know if their answers a worth a shit…goddamn what a dumb fuck.
There’s enough real stuff to attack Trump on.
You don’t have to make up gaffes. “Quds” and “Kurds” do sound alike, and it’s disingenuous to assume that Trump didn’t simply mishear the word.
Questions are hard.
I may be naive, but I think it may be a wee bit premature to declare Trump the GOP nominee based on polling almost 5 months before the voting process begins.
I love Kurds, I love all the cheeses and the great people of Wisconsin.
Not that this ever gives him pause.
So long as he keeps up his bluster he’ll do just fine.
