The former are the ones who wholeheartedly embrace CU. The latter are the ones supporting Trump in part because he claims he can’t be bought. CU is one of those issues that the establishment class embraces because it’s good for their reelection, but that the base abhors because they believe the money in politics is what’s keeping their leaders from doing their bidding. In other words, the party would’ve repealed Obamacare and impeached the president if it weren’t for rich people buying off Congress.

Stir in a status quo-loving media that constantly switches the nouns and verbs as ‘balance’ for the tipsy deregulated public void and Katie didn’t just bar the door she armor-plated it…

Well since you are so tired perhaps you should have a lie down.

And so online fundraising appeals using Trump as a foil make Democrats culpable for the crazy shit that animates Trump and the GOP base?

Your words, and, again, your oft-seen technique for fomenting needless comment disharmony. My example was endless money appeals, period, without hooks. You just offered a current example of a hook. I didn’t.

LIndsey Graham: voice of reason and sanity.

This episode of Surrealism Today is brought to you by the Republican Party ver. 2016.

I thought Lindsey was only running to get around the country for a little strange. And frankly, after felching Sid McCrashcup for the last decade-plus, he deserves to taste the American buffet.

Time to quit Lindsey

The nominee of the Republican party will not allow for an exception for rape and incest…

That’s the Achilles Heel of the anti-abortion crowd. Always has been. They oppose abortion because they believe the fetus is a human being, entitled to all the legal protections of any person. But if you make an exception for rape and incest, you are sentencing the fetus to death, despite the fact that the fetus is guilty of nothing. You’re placing the needs of the woman above those of the fetus.

In short, if you make an exception for rape and incest, your entire ant-abortion premise collapses. If you don’t make an exception for rape and incest, you seem like a monster. Rock. Hard place.

He just does it because he doesn’t get to appear on sunday news shows every single fuckin’ sunday.

I’m not his biggest fan, but he’s clearly speaking for the branch of his party that hasn’t gone completely batsht.
Sadly, this is probably why his poll numbers are so terrible.
As a Democrat, I’m as guilty as anyone else of schadenfreude over the Rs’ collective dementia, but it’s obviously not good for anyone–not America, not the rest of the planet, not rank-and-file Republicans. We really need both major parties to show up for work.
In this context, Graham could be a benign influence if he’d stop cozying up to his party’s nutcases. The Rs respond a lot more to strong leadership than the Ds do. It would be nice if they got some from a source who wasn’t effing crazy.

With all due respect, you’re typing as if their actual purpose had something to the well-being of putative children.

“I believe Donald Trump is destroying the Republican Party’s chance at winning an election we cannot afford to lose,” Graham said
Republicans don’t believe in the federal government and have demonstrated their eager desire to shut it down and dismantle its enterprises. 1) why do they want to govern what they despise, 2) why do they think we want them to?

We should listen to him as he has significant more relevant experience than any other American: Number of appearances on Meet The Press.

True enough. I’ve often observed that the most rabid anti-abortionists - the clinic bombers, the doctor-murderers, the sidewalk screamers - are men. That tells me that it has nothing to do with the sanctity of human life, and everything to do with the need to control women.

Lodged into a “The winds the Trump ‘vane’ deflects blow from both parties, the GOP gusts, with their racist, elitist and violent spores are just more obvious even if they will lie fallow during this restless planting.” framing.

“Lodged”, oh, yes, like apples are lodged into oranges or you on your solitary track…

He says this is an election they cannot afford to lose. interesting statement. What does this really mean?

Either it’s because a loss would make them utterly irrelevant, a task they’ve clearly taken to heart, or it means the cost of losing would be too high. I’m guessing both, because losing would mean folks like the Koch bros would have spent literally billions on a losing cause, and another Democratic president, coupled with possibly a Democratic majority in the Senate (and possibly the House) would mean the rich would no longer be able to buy privilege. Now THAT is a really scary thought.

I am so sick of the “DISASTER LOOMING” emails from the DNC, dscc, dccc, and the like that I now have my junk filter tuned against all party committees, and candidate appeals of that sort. Enough already! I’ll give at my own speed, directly to responsible candidates who I think will make a difference.
