Forgot one. They assigned serial misinformer*, Kit Seelye to cover Al Gore during the 2000 Presidential Election & Frank Bruni, the Arts & Leisure columnist at the time, to cover the Bush Campaign.
Kit Seelye basically branded Al Gore as a serial liar in an April 2000 column, which Bush & Cheney were happy to echo throughout the campaign.
Boy is it time for us Dems/liberals to start playing nice and asking for documents and the report nicely and keeping everything under wraps in Congress like weâre supposed to without leaking the damning information that actually exists!!!
Donât want to be called out for playing dirty now, do we?
Maybe it will be someone elseâs vodka-laced vomit that gets him.
Yes, I did think about their coverage of Al Gore. That was also disgraceful.
Gore, like many Democrats, made the mistake of treating the Times like an objective observer. When they complained that he was sighing and rolling his eyes too much in the first debate (in which he figuratively beat W. to a pulp), Gore decided to back off. These outlets always give bad faith advice to Democrats.
They really donât care at all if the Report shoots holes in their Narrative. The important thing for Conservatives is establishing their Narrative as passable alternate version of the story. So theyâre all in great big hurry to get in front of any release of the Report.
Meanwhile Democrats are being reasonable and asking for the Report.
That isnât going to work, folks. We need to be out in the street with pitchforks DEMANDING that the Report was released, JUST LIKE THE STARR INVESTIGATION REPORT WAS RELEASED.
The boys from Spinal Tap are nodding in approval.
Agreed. Where is Daniel Ellsberg, now that we really need him?
Trump has always been skilled at this, moving things so far to the extreme that it drags what were already ridiculous right-wing opinions to seeming like the center. Moving the Overton window to use the going term, but whatever you call it, heâs doing it.
I mean think about it, even the Barr report includes a quote saying that the report âdoes not exonerateâ Trump, and Trump immediately starts trumpeting that it exonerated him â no, that it totally, and completely exonerated him.
I really am stunned that itâs working so well, I expected at least a little less gullibility (yes I know, why did I expect that, blah blah blah. I did.)
I canât believe this is a contrarian position (not so much here but out there in general) but I think rather than exonerating him this whole episode makes Trump look more corrupt than ever. The whole idea of a special counsel was to remove it from politics, and finding copious evidence for obstruction and punting that to Barr, a Trump political appointee, to decide is just bizarre. If Mueller intended it to go to Congress to evaluate instead he needs to speak up and I mean right now.
Either way, this appears to have been a corrupt manipulation, a sleight of hand, a cover up, by Trump and his administration and I canât imagine anyone even half awake seeing it any other way.
How bigly, badly this Barr letter scenario and stinking aftermath of the Trumpie chickens clucking makes me want to pukely.
(I pinched this photo from progressivecitizenx.blogspot and cannot take credit for such artistic flare.)
Tune in to CNN or Meet the Press & itâs been 24/7 the Dems better not _________ now. Anderson Cooper, of all people, was clutching his pearls the other evening about the Dems having Robert Mueller testify. I donât recall anything like that when the GOP went Benghazi 24/7 for 4 straight years.
Agreed, but gas-lighting and dishonest arguments from authoritarians, Republicans or others, is certainly not worth reporting verbatim no matter how you look at it. Even with a (usually absent) cautionary headline, repetition of propaganda is as likely to reinforce it as inform or warn.
To counteract politically promoted or viral lies it would help if more information sources, in fact everyone, responded this way:
Instead of directly repeating a false claim, consider this framing instead: âThe facts are X, but some have falsely claimed Y. Letâs focus on X.â This is a simple solution that journalists, social media managers, fact-checking websites, and individuals can use to make sure that we spread truth, not lies.
When reporting lies, the facts should always come first.
Iâm afraid heâs not available, but I do hope we will find someone else to do the job.
I find it is becoming harder and harder to read the bile and bullshit these guys put out day after day - it just makes me cringe.
Why is it so hard to fight against this purposeful shameless lying? - I think our reps are doing the best they can, but something is seriously wrong with our media landscape, and I have no idea what the cure is. FOX is stage IV cancer and it feels like the cure might kill the patient at this point.
raises hand
They believe that once the âpublicâ report comes out, itâll show that a dotty old man had no idea how many âdemocratsâ were using him to further their own goals.
Poor drummers
Deep State, if youâre listeningâŚ
Theyâre not falling for anything, theyâre complicit.
Remember this -
MoJo: A Veteran Spy Has Given the FBI Information Alleging a Russian Operation to Cultivate Donald Trump.
And the next day NYT: Investigating Donald Trump, F.B.I. Sees No Clear Link to Russia.
Draw your own conclusions.

Theyâre fomenting chaos in the faithful â following in the image of Trump, of course. Meanwhile, he comes out in force against Health Care, and Iâm seeing twitter posts about Social Security needing to go, great hand-out that it is (not).
A win-win for the Right. Dems march and maybe the brownshirts can stir up enough discord to call martial law.
(Listening to Preet is helpful. And watching the ending of Thelma and LOUISE.)
