Discussion: Libertarian VP Candidate Says His Primary Focus Is Taking Down Trump

Governor Johnson: “What’s a Trump?”

It’s unanimous! All three VP candidates agree: Trump is unqualified to be president. Pence and Kaine both said as much in last night’s debate.

Why are you running then, instead of endorsing HRC ?

With the current poll numbers you are just making trouble, and helping Trump.

But he’s not endorsing Hillary

I wish I was close enough to smack him upside the head and spit in his face .
Listen shithead , if you want to take down Donald Trump stop your useless vanity campaign and endorse Hillary. I would like to give you credit for not being a stupid as Gary Johnson

There just seems to be an air of clueless stupidity around the entire Gary “Baked” Johnson campaign.

Or is that just the ganja?

I actually like this move by Weld better. Weld as the current Libertarian VP candidate giving what amounts to a de facto endorsement of Clinton does more to help her lap up Johnson’s eroding support than if he were to quit the ticket and join her overtly. It’s the smart move.

This must be somewhat embarrassing for Johnson. Who wants to bet in the pool on when Gary reaches for the bong to put this whole mess out of his mind? Someone needs to check the campaign bus for clouds of chronic.

Those silly libertarians. Do what you want, and never mind the consequences to everyone else, including your running mate!

Oh dang, I first read that as “who wants to be on the bus when Gary reaches for the bong?” I’d volunteer.

Mike Pence appeared to be asking the same thing in the debate last night.

No, Johnson will be clueless and stupid regardless of the amount of ganja you smoke.

Oh, you meant him.

The most solid thing about the platform yet,

I predicted that an insider would stage an “October Surprise” by leaking Trump tax information.

I also predict that Weld will endorse Clinton, as will other Republican holdouts as Election Day draws near.

I still think that both Johnson and Weld are trying to get their numbers to 5% and not 1 vote more.(5% being the threshold for federal matching funds). They both are worried that they may indeed be impacting the actual race, and neither wants to held responsible for a Trump administration.

All that being said, its worth noting that they are holding down voters, that if they left the race, would go to Trump (Libertarians match closer ideologically with republicans than the do Hillary). This looks like a pretty clear message to the “BernieBusters” to leave and go support Hillary.

From what I have seen, it’s not at all clear that libertarians that are supporting Johnson would in fact move to Trump if Johnson dropped out (which he won’t). I agree that is what we would normally predict, but Trump is a “black swan” candidate and so probably defies normal predictive logic.

I would say “brown trout” but otherwise agree.

On paper I understand why he ran. You wouldn’t think that a Libertarian candidate would be taking votes from the Democrats. I wonder if he ran solely because he wanted to siphon off Trump voters. In recent weeks it have been looking like it might actually be hurting Clinton. The RPC average has Clinton up 3.8% in a 2-way and 3.4% in a 4-way. However that poll in New Mexico, where Johnson was in 2nd place, looks bad for the Dems.
