Discussion: Lewandowski Hopes Trump Sues NY Times ‘Into Oblivion’ For Tax Report

I’m not familiar with the lady, but in any case the remark is hypothetical. It’s an old Sicilian curse that I learned from Scalia.

This whole “leaked tax form” thing is clearly a “Karl Rove” kind of move.

Release something you can spin into a positive (SEE! He really IS a “Genius!”) then claim it was “stolen!!!” and attack the messenger and wave your hands about and scream and rend your clothing about the “sanctity the tax form” to obscure the FACT that Trump won’t release his taxes. The only candidate in the last 40 years to do so!
It is a wholly manufactured reason to NOT release his taxes (My lawyers have told me I CANNOT release them during an “Active Police Investigation” into the LEAKING of my precious tax forms!"

Transparent also.

The Lewandowski statement is clearly scripted to sow doubt and instill fear into any other news entities thinking about releasing anything that is damaging to The Orange Buffoon".

That’s my understanding too. In the magic space between Sentence #1 and Sentence #2, Lewandowski shifted his objection. He wanted to say the returns hadn’t been authenticated, then once they had been, he said that the authenticator wasn’t authorized to release, which no one had ever claimed. I think the dear boy got confused because both words start with “a.”

“…move out of New York because of utter shame.”
The man has no shame.

Lewandowski charged that the newspaper “decided to publish it without any authentication.”

Someone buy Trump’s surrogates (and that’s what I count Lewandowski as) a dictionary.

As they point out, The Times authenticated the documents with the original preparer, who not only authenticated his signature, but also pointed out were he used a typewriter to at the first two digits to the dollar amount for the loss because his tax software couldn’t print a number that large as a loss.

At this point the Trump camp is only drinking the cool-aid because they hope it’s poisoned.

Looks like no laws have been broken here, either by Trump or the NYT. It’s just information that voters can use. Honestly how is this even a bombshell when the guy has refused to release his taxes for so, so long. Obviously there’s a reason and I bet these 3 pages are only a hint.

Exactly. He asks what is Trump’s recourse if this is inaccurate. Obviously his recourse is to show us the “real” tax returns…

I confess I am still sufficiently naive, and retain a sufficient glimmer of my lawyerly respect for the rule of law, to be shocked, appalled and amused by the way Trump and his minions seem to think lawsuits don’t actually have anything to do with, you know, the law. But then, apparently, no one ever sanctions him for bringing frivolous suits or asserting frivolous claims (if only because he quietly settles before that happens), so why wouldn’t they thing the courts are anarchic cudgels for use in punishing your less well-heeled enemies by making them spend money?

That said, this is the New York Times, we’re talking about here, not the Bumfuck Weekly Clarion. The old gal may be in her dotage, more than half-batty half the time, and increasingly a bit out of step with the youngs and their crazy ideas about news, but she’ll spend dollar for dollar with you in the courtroom. No one in history has ever “sued her into oblivion” and no one ever will.

Just imagine the discovery requests from the NYT legal team.

Not to mention helping to keep the story in the news, even if (when?) the media get distracted again by some bright shiny object (hello, Mr. Assange).

Which, of course, is why there will be noise and bluster, but no actual lawsuit.

His spouse is the 400 pound man - Trump even chipped in for the marriage bed.

He’s not really a part of CNN anymore. Any substantial blame for Lewandowski still collecting a paycheck should be laid at the feet of one man. Soooooo #thankyoujeff

Times has more money than Trump. He only sues little guys that can’t afford to run it thru the system. Won’t happen. Plus obviously the law is against him on this…not that the law matters to him.

I know that Lewandowski is a stupid fuckface (with emphasis on the stupid), but I would be curious to hear on what grounds Corey thinks that tRump could sue the NYT. As a lawyer (but by no means an expert in this area), I’d say that there ain’t none.

so that’s why some people are saying that he’s saving enough money for he and his lover.

Thanks for keeping the tax returns in the news cycle, Corey

Exactly what I came in here to say.

Huzzah!

This. This is exactly why the Oompah Loompah-In-Chief won’t sue. Discovery would decimate him.

Indeed. By Trumpian logic, Lewandowski should be “proud” of the New York Times for “forcing” Trump to release his long-form tax returns.
