Discussion: LePage: 'Shame On Me' For Being Blind To Taxpayer-Funded Trump Hotel Rate

“It has everything to do that I have an ‘R’ next to my name — that’s the fact,” LePage said, pinning the reason on his Republican affiliation. “They are 100 percent biased and if you have an ‘R’ next your name, you’re in trouble.”

All this man ever tried to do as Maine Governor was be a uniter and bring people together, and this is the thanks he gets.

You know, that guy’s always been too easy. If the Just Me Party were to nominate me to run against him, I would pay someone a generous sum of money to be allowed to debate him. Damn, that would be fun.

Shame on you for not having the integrity to take responsibility or ownership of your poor choices.

Shame on you period.

Seems to be the way it is anymore in this country brought on all by themselves…
Constant proof of being grifters, thieves and liars with some treason involved.
How about that???

If he were serious about his shame, there would be a check. And yeah, the state’s rules almost certainly bar that kind of behavior, but it’s likely to difficult to prosecute.

My dear departed first husband worked for an international company and was country manager for Austria (and some others too). Hotel Bristol was his hotel of choice in Vienna, so I stayed there a couple of times when I accompanied him. We never had the super-duper rooms, but I remember how it always impressed me that the doorman always greeted me by name…

(Funny, I haven’t thought about the Bristol in years…)

Yes, LePage has an R next to his name. It stands for Rotten excuse for a human being.

That the reporter asked “why the reports came out now?”, without knowing the reason for the delays in releasing this information betrays an ignorance on the part of this “journalist” that is appalling. The questions that should have been asked is, “why did you try to hide this?”.

As I’ve said previously, the state should deduct the amounts from his pension payments and let him fight to get it back.

The R next to his name is for hoRRRRRible. The thing is, he didn’t even get anything for his attempt at bribery. That’s precisely what Trump wants, give me money and maybe you’ll win favor. But maybe not (and so perhaps you should give me more money).

State employees, of which LePage was at the time, are supposted to follow federal per diem recommendations, unless pre-approved. The rate the state paid for LePage to stay there was 4 x the maximum per diem for Washington DC area.

LePage should be billed/sued for the overpaid amount since he did not get pre-approval.

Truth from a repug? I’m surprised LePage didn’t burst into flames then and there.

As soon as Maine instituted a sensible and fair election process, LePage and the bums were voted out. The same will happen in countrywide elections, if it can be managed. The majority of Americans loathe republicans.

He’s right about that. The GOP welcomed a lot of bad apples. But he’s wrong in his assertion this is a de jure rather than de dicto trend.

And it’s not a coincidence. The ideology of the Republican party encourages and welcomes corruption, malfeasance, and incompetence in its public servants, as do its wealthy donors and its anti-intellectual, aggressively reductionist, virulently ignorant base.

Dems have their own problems, and rank-and-file liberal voters are just as flawed and human as anyone. But we try hard to promote excellence and to bounce villains at the door. The GOP doesn’t try, doesn’t want to, and is proud of that.

If you have an “R” next to your name, odds are that you should be in trouble.
