Enjoy the “undiscovered country”, Commander. Peace.
Beat me to it.
A very sad day for Trekkers…
Man, this bums me completely out. Such an incredibly humble, likable man. I loved that he could poke fun at himself and his Spock persona. RIP
Well, he lived long and prospered, but you still feel a pang.
“Technically, we’re not inside yet.”
Snicker.
I’m not a trekkie, but I’ve always admired the man’s wit and talent. Sad to see him go.
I loved the part of him singing The Hobbit song while driving there. I’m old enough to get that reference.
Me too.
“He’s not really dead. As long as we remember him.” — Dr. McCoy, Wrath of Khan
He will live long and prosper in our memories.
Classy guy. He kept Spock fans satisfied for almost 50 years while also managing to get them to love Leonard Nimoy as much as they loved his famous character.
Mr. Nimoy, thank you. I hope your passing was peaceful. Sad day for your countless fans (I also loved your ‘In Search Of’ series), but a new beginning, of sorts, for you. A transfer of energy. I wish you well.
A real mensch, born the same year and place of birth as my late father – also of Ukranian jewish descent. He always used to chuckle about the Vulcan hand greeting because my dad was a Kohanim too. (Likewise he got a kick that William Shatner attended hebrew school with his cousin.) I have always looked at the original Star Trek through this weird tribal lens. And for San Fernando Valley-ites – remember Leonard Nimoy’s Pet Pad!? Looking over some older pictures of Nimoy that have been posted today, I really feel the loss as if I knew him personally. He was a big part of my childhood. It also struck me how much Adam Driver (Lena Dunham’s boyfriend in Girls) resembles him. (Added: I figured I could not be only one to notice the resemblance – https://twitter.com/andrewzip/status/431581703195209728)
Damn. Just…mortality really sucks. Already missing you.
Those clowns who said that Obama was really Spock–did they realize that Spock was the smartest, most admired and best-loved member of that crew?
And as I look at them now, they all seemed to have been playing themselves.

I never had the honor to meet him (ComicCon is just not my thing) but I’ve heard from several people that he was one of the most decent people you could hope to meet. Having worked with some actors, I can tell you that trait is not universal to the group. As someone in the 50’s, I feel kinda blessed to have watched the original STAR TREK series with genuine awe at something that was considered to be groundbreaking.
He really will be missed.
"We each have people that when we hear about their passing, it hits us with special force, because of a special mix of things unique to yourself and to that other person. For me, Nimoy is one of those people. "
Indeed. Between Spock and Robin Williams it’s been a banner year for that feeling for me and I can imagine many others. I dread the incoming 3rd.
