I agree, but another reality is that 4 " no " votes hardly represent a revolt by the left wing.

Good for them!
Letâs be ridiculously clear about this:
Theyâre
Not
Wrong.
Everyone in that organization (ICE) needs to be fired and completely re-vetted before re-hiring. The US doesnât need brownshirts in this organization being the face of our country. Withholding funding doesnât necessarily help, but shining the bright light on the travesty of this organization is not a bad thing.
As long as their defections donât scuttle the search for 218 votes, Iâm good with it. They are raising important moral, legal and policy issues about how DHS/ICE are doing things. It is probably the biggest policy scandal of this Administration. Pass the bill and move the oversight focus to ICE/DHS.
in 2007 had the democrats and sanders voted for comprehensive immigration reform, rather than pandering to the far left on the issue, it would have gotten 61 votes, passed, and been signed into law.
Unfortunately today, with the republicans going off the deep end, I see no reasonable fix in sight, and a lot of families are being ripped apart because of certain folks who wanted perfection in the past.
Those who voted no and are still active in politics include, Sherrod Brown and Sanders.and Tester.
Pelosi:
âGood to see youâŚhave a seatâŚâ
Exactly, the Speaker knows when to give her members a pass and make their point.
Not only that, it shows that this bill is a compromise on both sides. Nobody likes it, which is often a sign of democratic government at work.
Four out of 235. More a nub than a wing!
It is important that Reps. Ocasio-Cortez, Omar, Pressley, and Tlaib, as elected officials, said what they said. The Old Guard would not be able to do that. It is their voices that give people any hope at all in the future of US governance.
Good point.
G-O-V-E-R-N-A-N-C-E a sacred calling. In 1996 I had to turn down a chance for a visa to this country for a young man who could have been the next AOC.
People take âgovernmentâ too much for granted.
Thatâs how Trump and his crew***got in
*** McConnell and posse
Iâm glad they got said what needed to be said. I agree with them, realize why the funding is there, wish it wasnât but I get it. All in all, I think they got some important things said that a lot of Democrats agree with.
The border is a moral line in the sand because Trump and the DHS have made it so. Those 4 are the perfect ones to refuse to cross that line.
Canât tell what the chances of this are, but theyâre going to look pretty smart if it passes both houses and then Trump doesnât sign it. You canât deal with the pathology in the White House.
Didnât most of the Democratic Senators who voted no vote with the larger number of Republicans who also voted no (Bush couldnât get them on board), and come from red or tending red states where their re-election was in question? Not sure the split here was toward the âfar left.â Seems more like it was toward the opposite, toward the right. Sherrod Brown and Tester are cases in point. While I donât think their respective re-elections were in question at this particular point (as opposed to some of the other Democratic members), they certainly both have have a conservative electorate back home that they need to keep happy.
Making a deal with pure evil, traitor Trump and the traitor GOP, isnât a victory. Funding ICE and more beds for detention⌠how can that be called a compromise or a victory? Itâs a vote for torture and child abuse. Big whoop.
Trump can claim he won because democrats are terrified of another long shutdown. The MSM made a big deal of the suffering of the federal workers, but did not make even a small fuss over the suffering of refugees and the families whose kids were ripped from them and crammed in a jail staffed by SS-type goons.
I think itâs a deliberate ruse, on Nancyâs part, at least, to get Trump to sign it.
But these four know their votes will not cause a shutdown. Peloai probably told them to go for it, much as she told the democrats who campaigned saying they would not vote for her as speaker to go for it. And they got elected. And when it was time to elect her Speaker? Done.
If she needed these four votes to pass this bill, she would have them. Instead, she can let them register protest votes that will appeal to their constituents without effecting the outcome of this bill. Itâs all good.
New meaning of Green New Deal. âLook at me! Look at me!â
