Discussion: Lee Defends Staunch Opposition To Replacement Plans: I'm No 'Absolutist'

I’m No ‘Absolutist’

Why are Republicans the least self aware Americans?

Spend 8 years acting as vipers against the President and democratic colleagues, then when in power - without the joint “enemy” - turn the fangs against each other. Don’t know which infighting is more vicious, and/or causing more dysfunction - in the West Wing, or in the GOP corridors of Congress (House and Senate.)

He can read a bank statement.
Among his set, wealth is the gold coin of human worth.

“I am surprised that he would purport to know what my thoughts and intents were, what I was thinking or intending. He could not be more wrong.”

It’s the Republican way to claim to know what people think and be wrong about it.

Seema Verma seems to be selling the mods hard on what is basically a scam. She has been the GOP’s go to salesperson (read: liar). Ryan is trying to slam the CBO with the argument that if people don’t want Trumpcare insurance (b/c it costs too much and doesn’t cover anyone) that isn’t a loss of coverage but a voluntary decision. He’s a despicable human being.

Then again, guys like Lee remain holdouts from the right and Rand Paul is about as reliable as Trump. With the Senate presently down to 99, I see it unlikely that Mitch gets to 50. My O-Care repeal meter is at 35%. That’s still high, because it is driven by the GOP’s absolute desire not to concede defeat on what it believes is an existential issue.

There are two existential issues for the GOP (as perceived by them): health care + race.

For the GOP, if the Dems crack the HC issue, they feel like the country permanently changes to what they call a ‘nanny state’. GOPers and their top 1% friends will not be able to bilk the US treasury for personal gain, and it would limit, if not, end corruption. What’s the point of power if you can’t use it to make a shitload of money off the backs of people?
In addition, WWC folks will entrust Democrats. They see HC as the path by which Democrats get to 50% of the white vote.

On race, they see demographic change as existential because mediocre white guys will lose the benefit of privilege and will have to compete like everyone else. This was essentially the Trump campaign’s theme throughout the country. “This is our last chance”. That’s what he meant. They envision an America around the corner in which mediocre white males (think Sean Spicer) have limited control and power. That’s also why people on the right buy into all that voter fraud bullshit.

That sentiment is why we keep getting zombie bills. It represents a tough challenge for Team Blue, because the other side views it, misguidedly, as an existential issue.

People sanitize it as saying they’re afraid of change. Really, what this is about is a fear of loss of power and privilege, and of open competition. Incidentally, these feelings of loss of power/privilege also motivate the hard core brocialsts on the Bernie side, and inform Bernie’s own rhetoric on issues like race (e.g., his disdain for what he calls ‘identity politics’) and trade.

I still think this bill fails, but over the course of this weekend, the Trumplosion may make Mitch more desperate to get a ‘win’ before it all goes down. Hopefully, someone like Portman or Moran can tell Mitch it’s over.

Shorter Lee: Insurance company should be able to sell completely worthless plans which WILL result in consumer bankruptcy.

It doesn’t change to a nanny state. It threatens to rearrange the allegiance of even more people who are being helped by government. That’s the only problem with government programs from the Republican point of view.

A friend flying back from DC last night noticed Mitch was on the same flight and made sure she politely thanked him for not passing their AHCA bills and saving 100s of 1000s of Kentuckians from losing their health care.
LOL
If I had been there I would have chimed in with “Sen. M., how much money did you really take from the Russians at the RNC for your super PAC to use on down ballot races and do you have a receipt for that?”

That might even be worth getting thrown off the flight before it took off.

Redistribution and race. And their race problem has a strong anti-redistribution element.
