Anybody else’s Sincerity meter getting a reading? Mine says “zero” or maybe the battery is dead.

Grassley knows what he is…

i didn’t read the full statement but this strikes me as bad messaging. Dems should be hammering repubs for their dereliction of duty per the constitution that they worship and drape themselves in. This seems very soft to me. Be hyperbolic and call them treasonous. Don’t hold back. Republicans wouldn’t and don’t. They freely call HRC a criminal. Take the gloves off for once and stop being polite.

I had written to Senator Toomey asking him to do his job and advise and consent and got the following response:

…it makes sense to give the American people a more direct say in this critical decision. I believe that the next court appointment should be made after the upcoming elections by the next president.

My response:

Senator: The people do not vote for Supreme Court justices and you know that. You want “the people" to have a more direct say by casting their vote for President. They already did so twice, for President Obama, and he still has 20% of his term remaining. The Constitution says he SHALL make nominations to fill such vacancies. By large margins, polls of Americans of all political persuasions agree the Constitution should be followed now.

If Presidents shouldn’t nominate candidates during their final year (your arbitrary deadline), then why should you, in the in the final year of your Senate term, be able to sponsor legislation or vote?

You previously served as President of The Club for Growth, a conservative PAC of anonymous donors now telling Republican candidates that if they support Donald Trump, the Club will not provide any funding to help their campaigns. That sure doesn’t sound like “letting the people decide.”

The Constitution is clear: Meet with the candidate, hold hearings, and vote one way or another. Do your job!

I urge anyone out there whose Senator is obstructing this process to write, e-mail and call today. Feel free to use any of the above, but let them know you expect them to act. You are in the majority. Your Senator needs to feel the heat.

PS…we also presented 27,000 petition signatures to Senator Toomey’s office in Pittsburgh…part of well over a million signatures gathered for presentation to the recalcitrant.

Leahy’s adherence to the notion that the senate should be a courteous, collegial place is so 20th-century.
