Discussion: Lawyers Spurn Trump Over Concerns He Won't Pay Bills, Listen To Legal Advise

Lock this racist sexual predator up. Lock this lying piece of shit up. Lock this scumbag up. Lock Trump up. Lock him up. Lock him up.

Thereā€™s no need for a trial, just as he and the low racist scum who support him wanted to lock Hillary up without a trial.

Lock this racist piece of shit up. And send all his low-life racist supporters to re-education camps run by Nancy Pelosi and trans ex-Marines in San Francisco!

PS: Since the low-life moron Trump believes in ā€œenhanced interrogationā€, letā€™s give him a taste.

Not sure any of this is really news ā€” the number of top flight lawyers who had just washed their hair or were having their nails done was a pretty fair indicator of thatā€¦,

Also, TPM, ā€œadviseā€ is the verb, ā€œadviceā€ is the noun. Someone who advises on legal issues gives legal adviceā€¦

Rule No. 1 if you are a criminal defense attorney, and you have a client who is going to end up in jail: Get paid up front.

Or put another way no legal work done until material witness Mr Green appears!

Theyā€™re being nice and not saying it but I think theyā€™re also concerned that heā€™s hideously guilty of things no previous president even dreamed of doing and thereā€™s a dream team of superhero investigators swimming in evidence like Scrooge McDuck with his money. Itā€™s hopeless. You could bring a mummy to a team of the best geriatricians in the country and ask what its prognosis is and theyā€™ll tell you itā€™s going to stay dead, you know? Thereā€™d be nothing they could do. I think thatā€™s what weā€™re looking at here.

ā€œPractically speaking, a bank or financial institution that can guarantee multimillion-dollar payments to a major law firm often makes for a more desirable client than an individual with more limited resourcesā€

But, but, butā€¦he said: ā€œIā€™m really rich, ya know.ā€

From the headline, I gather that the lawyers in question are British barristers. (Interestingly, barristers are not paid fees, and may not sue to collect from clients; what we would call their fees are referred to as ā€œgifts.ā€)

This is stating the obvious, although it is still weird to think that lawyers would turn down the chance to represent the President of the United States, even for free.

On the other hand, in TrumpWorldā„¢, special councels give advise.

When I was a rookie in law school, we had a teacher who had practiced law in South Texas for some years and come back to school for an advanced degree. Thinking I was being clever, I asked him whether you should get your fee in cash if you were representing a forger. In his best brawl, he said, ā€œWhenever you represent someone accused of a crime, you get your fee in cash and up front. 'Cause he hasnā€™t got much incentive to pay after the jail door slams behind him.ā€

I was kinda taken by this line, especially in an AP story. Not much bothsiderism here:

In at least one other case, a major law firm that contemplated an
overture to one of its lawyers was turned off by the idea of a ā€œclient
who attacks the essence of our legal systemā€

If the best you can do for an attorney is Mikey Cohen, before the shit the fan, the pickings get even slimmer now that the fan is on hyper-driveā€¦

Talk about chickens coming home to roost. The combination of failing to follow legal advice and failing to pay fees are very good reasons to avoid representing Trump. The other reason is that Trump uses lawyers to subvert the legal system. Lawyers are supposed to be ethical and not use their position to take advantage of others. As lawyers we have obligations to society at large. The idea of someone like Cohen - a ā€œfixerā€ acted as a lawyer tells me that there has to be some ethical violations that should led to discipline if not disbarment. I would avoid being tainted by association. Early in my career I was told to know what clients to turn down to save money, reputation and bar license. Trump is flashing red light of a client.

The entitlement displayed by cheap rich bastards like Trump (and the Koch Brothers) is making Social Security Takers look like freakinā€™ geniuses.

Perhaps Trump should approach Dewey, Cheatem, and Howe for representation.
