It’s interesting you say that, because I could swear I had seen a study opining that there’s some correlation between the news media deliberately keeping you emotionally agitated and an addictive effect that has you addicted to the emotional agitation. It certainly makes some folksy “sense” and would certainly be in the wheelhouse of the kind of marketing research advertisers and the media perform to determine how best to manipulate the target audience and stupid them up. I googled quickly…couldn’t find it…but ran across this snippet:
