and now being reported - this was a decision months ago before Sessions and Rosenstein were in their current positions to figure out a way to get rid of Comey.

??? Rosenstein hired Mueller, a brilliant move. If he was pro Trump he would have appointed Guiliani or Christie. I actually canāt think of a better appointment than Mueller. Not only is he highly qualified and unbiased, but he is someone no Republican can trash.
I think Rosenstein was pressured big time. And if he does not write the memo, he is fired, and a new AG appointed by Trump either does not hire a Special Counsel, or hires a Christie type.

NO NO NO. If he resigns, Trump can appoint a Deputy AG who will fire Mueller. As it is now, the only person who can fire Mueller is Rosenstein. I get why Rosenstein needs to ādanceā, but seeing how heās taken Comeyās spot, he needs to be careful about how he ādancesā.

It was a comment by Rosenstein himself, and perfectly reasonable. Comey deserved to be fired. Any career justice department official would think that. I certainly thought that. Now, Comey shouldnāt have been fired by this White House, since he was leading an investigation into them. But to string his opening statement (which he didnāt have to state) into a conspiracy is ridiculious.
The part that troubles me is the report that Sessions and Rosenstein discussed firing Comey before either was confirmed and possibly before Rosenstein was appointed. I am too tired to go back to check on a timeline, but is this not the way things worked: Rosenstein and Sessions talk; Sessions confirmed; Rosenstein appointed and confirmed; Rosenstein meets with Trump; Rosenstein writes his memo; Trump fires Comey.? At this site, there is always someone reading who really knows whatās going on, so correct the timeline if itās wrong.
Bite your tongue. Rosenstein has given us Mueller. Your objection to this isā? You want him replaced because he will doā? (Rather than protecting his own appointee.)

The memo, and Rosensteinās refusal to agree a special counsel should be appointed when asked directly and publicly, and his preternaturally buttoned-up demeanor, all gave him the room to get the Mueller appointment done without Trump and his minions constantly in his face. They may have caused Rosenstein some embarrassment, but whoās laughing now?
Trump keeps those who promise loyalty over countryā¦it is becoming obvious that Rosenstein is not a stand up federal prosecutor. He needs to follow Jeff Sessions out the door!
And then of course we have Trumpās Supreme Court pickā¦if Trump is impeached, his pick should also be impeached.
The Rosenstein memo was spot on. But the valid reasons to fire Comey, are a little too convenient for The Rump, whose actual reasons are either unrelated (Russia) or opposite (no Clinton indictment) to the valid ones.
I donāt entirely trust Rosenstein any more than I entirely trust Comey, but his appointment of Mueller looks at the moment like a good move. However, what will really indicate his true nature is how he deals with the WH efforts to use ethics rules to hobble Mueller. If he waives the rules so Mueller can work unencumbered, good. If he supports the WH efforts to use them to hamstring Mueller, bad.
Rosenstein Tells Senate He Knew of Comey Firing Before He Wrote Memo
From NBC News, but all parts of the timeline are not clear.
But why wouldnāt you discuss firing Comey. He grossly broke department policy by discussing a case in which charges were not goitg to be filed and repeatedly interfered in an election. Specifically, he broke DOJ regulations. Why would the soon to be AG not discuss the matter with the person who he was intending to appoint as his deputy.
I donāt get in what world, this wouldnāt be discussed. The discussion should have ended with, we canāt do this because of the the FBIās Russia investigation. But from every report (except for the WH first day defense) iāve read, this decision came from Trump, it was not pushed on him from the DOJ.
Rosenteins should resign because of his memo, heās thrown his integrity out the window. But I would be worried if they pretended not to discuss this matter, that would sound like a depection.
