A tired old man has died as nature requires. His body has been drained, washed, infused with preservative chemicals, dressed, made up for display, and plunked into a cooler to preserve his freshness. Another tired old man suffering dementia and spouting random nonsense to hide his criminal history takes the opportunity to hold his investigation at bay for another week. Congress as usual comes up with a band-aid to treat the Nation’s decapitation.
Why is this even a topic for discussion? Mexico are paying for the wall.

I am still trying to figure out how this shutting down the government thing works when the Republicans have control of all the Whitehouse, Senate and the House, especially when it is the Whitehouse that is going to do the shutting down if it doesn’t get its way. Would somebody care to venture a guess as to the thinking. Who is going to be pressured if the government shuts down anyway?

the nation isn’t mourning. the nation is going about their business, and those who are paying attention are too punch-drunk from the repeated body blows to democracy to do more than spit out their mouthguard and say ‘huh?’
Ds should not vote for any spending past January 2019. The other side still controls the trifecta, and they can pass whatever they want if they stick together, but if any faction in their midst can be cajoled into going along with putting off a longer term settlement on spending into the next Congress, our side should go for it.
It’s about the only thing the GOP can pass, even in control of all the branches of government.
