Idiot enabler
Perez said the organization’s bylaws do allow Rocha to write such a statement on his own without checking first with the group’s other leaders. “Unfortunately, that’s the reality. But it’s not the reflection of the membership,” he stressed.
Sorry, but if your bylaws say that, and he is your president, then he is expressing the views of the organization.
Elections have consequences (I’m assuming the guy was elected into that position).
I strongly suspect Mr. Rocha will be looking for new employment in the very near future.
Allowable under their bylaws or not, that was an incredibly irresponsible move to put out such an obviously controversial statement, purporting to represent the organization, without consulting the board. That’s a big no-no in any organization.
Yep. I suspect he’ll be gone by the end of the week.
Was somebody promised a condo in Miami? Does he think he’ll actually get it?
Russians are on our shores paying off immigration activists and porn stars.
During the Rudolph Giuliani Campaign against David Dinkins for NYC Mayor, there were similarly two Latino leaders who betrayed the trust the community had placed in them and endorsed Giuliani.
One was Ninfa Segarra, the first Latino representative ever on the NYC Board of Education, whose appointment was the result of many years of struggle. She was rewarded by Giuliani with his appointment of her to be in charge of Welfare. She then became Giuliani’s punching bag until she was drummed out of the administration.
The other was Ruben Franco, a Latino lawyer who had surged into prominence and leadership by winning an acquittal for a visiting University of Puerto Rico professor who was prosecuted after he fought back against his racist apartment building neighbor who had turned his life into a daily living hell.
Franco was rewarded with being put in charge of the New York City Housing Authority, another stereotyped position from Giuliani.
Rocha will get his 30 pieces of temporarily grateful Trump silver.
I don’t think Kasowitz is Russian.
This Kasowitz?? If he’s not, it appears his friends are
Even if they wear suits, a mob guy is still a mob guy.
Some Russian oligarch paid big bucks for it—yuge—but I’ll make sure you get a nice discount.
LULAC members would be morally justified in punching this jerk in the nose.
Disagree, except that his view will be attributed as the view of the organization, as McConnell has clearly done. It may only be a semantic difference. But I’d bet his time as LULAC’s leader is short.
Kasowitz has been trump’s guy, buying & paying people off for decades, well before he was ever doing business with any Russians.
“…Rocha will get his 30 pieces of temporarily grateful Trump silver…”
With these losers it’s always a no-show job with lots of travel perks.
I saw it in my own community. That’s all they’re looking for.
They’re about the lowest form of humanity: Ones who betray their public trust.
Dante said they end up in the 9th and lowest Ring of the Inferno with the worst punishments.
In some very technical sense, yes. In a meaningful sense, where an organization has a mission and history and goals and member expectations, definitely not.
Funny, I had a similar thought.
But Perez didn’t say “Rocha said that, but it’s not the view of the organisation”. He said “Rocha said that, but it’s not the reflection of the membership”. Surely you can see the difference between “this is what most of the people think” and “this is what the president says”, even though the president gets to set policy…
