I will miss these dinners. Even if the guest quality stays up and Clinton wins the White House, President Obama is really good at comic delivery, and it’s always shown. It’s one of those small things I loved even in times where I was more critical of the administration.

Larry Wilmore is an excellent choice. Larry’s got the ability to deliver sharp-elbowed satire good-naturedly. His style is different than Colbert’s, but both can accomplish it. Wilmore also brings a pointed, sardonic black perspective to topical humor, more sad and concerned than angry.

Oh my word, what a perfect choice for Prez Obama’s last kiss-off. Obama/Wilmore … dream team!

Agreed, but once Obama is no longer president he’ll be able to do more of these things and he’ll have even fewer fucks to give, if possible.

Yes! The Obama years have been refreshing, because even when I disagreed vehemently with his policies, I at least appreciated that he was intelligent, thought for himself, and sincerely was trying to do the right thing. It is such a stark contrast with the conniving, disingenuous W and the smarmy snake oil of Ronny Rayguns.

Wilmore really is the only late night comedian worth watching these days. He, like Stewart and Colbert, really owns his material. And still his show is inconsistent because his supporting players really aren’t up to the task. Its a tragedy that both Stewart and Colbert threw away their influence at time when we damned needed them. The Colbert Report and Daily Show combo was a tour de force. I try to watch Colbert now, and his new show is mostly excruciating – with only a few moments worthwhile. As for the Daily show, Noah is a clunker.
