The government went for $100m, so they’d get 3m, and you gave them 5m.
Hahahahahaha
And let us not forget his Oscar-worthy performance in “Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story”…
“I guess if a person didn’t quit when the going got tough, they wouldn’t have anything to regret for the rest of their life.
Good luck, Peter. I’m sure this decision won’t haunt you forever.”
I still get tears every time I see it.
Kind of sad how this whole thing unfolded. From icon to dethroned has-been…
Chiselin’ Trump: “I am right about Amazon Armstrong costing the United States Post Office massive amounts of money for being their Delivery Boy. Amazon Armstrong should pay these costs (plus) and not have them bourne by the American Taxpayer.”
Yeah, I’d call it really upsetting and demoralizing if not for Bill Cosby.
I admit that I find the part where the cancer he made overcoming such a huge part of his inspirational message/branding strategy was very likely caused by the performance enhancing drugs he was using to cheat particularly galling.
I’m sure the Trump admin could find a place for him…humble, honest, upstanding, photogenic, athletictiic, philanthropic icon of selfless humanity that he is,
I despise the douchebag, except that he did lot of good things for cancer research and cancer sufferers. which of course , he always reminded us.
…while skipping lightly over the part where that cancer was almost certainly the result of the performance enhancing drugs he was using to cheat his way to victory and continued to take even after he beat the cancer.
Having cancer means you deserve treatment no matter what your income level is.
It does not automatically make you a good human being.
“I rode my heart out for the Postal cycling team, and was always
especially proud to wear the red, white and blue eagle on my chest when
competing in the Tour de France."
So the rest of the world perceived that the USA, which also uses those symbols, attains its dominance through CHEATING. This is certainly not the image that I want promoted.
The testicular cancer Armstrong had occurred in 1994 well before his fame and major drug use. He was exceedingly lucky to survive much less return to cycling at the most elite level. I don’t think the cancer was caused by ped’s. That much I’l grant him. Beyond that I have next to no respect for him as he was a cheater in those years he won the Tour de France. As a cancer survivor myself I drew inspiration from his story … until I learned he was lying and living a lie well before his open admission.
Ditto…
Citation please?
Lance’s earlier career (before Le Tour) were filled w/ many “brash” moments. His Euro competitors thought him quite arrogant. Stories of his competition hitting the brakes at the finish line because it would be too embarrassing to share a podium w/ him and what not. IANAP (i’m not a psychologist) but knowing the stories of his early career, and listening to his interview after his doping bust (thanks Oprah!) I would say he has a little sociopath/narcissist thing going on…not unlike the Donhole. With that, it is sad to see our modern day heroes turn out to be not so much…
My husband also survived testicular cancer, and subsequently took up endurance sports- both cycling and running, but not competitively, A lot of people were inspired by Armstrong’s story- but his doping, lies, and arrogance canceled all of the good that he did or might have done, both with respect to inspiring cancer survivors and as and as a role model for US cyclists.
If the ped’s caused the cancer then one would expect that cancers of the testicle ought to be very common among the pro ranks of the 1980’s thru at least 2010… the biological passport the cyclists submit to these dsys is very exacting. Having done thousands of hormone assays over my own research career from 1970 thru 2012 i know how sensitive the assays are. And over the last 5 years they have improved by at least an order of magnitude so to say. In 2016 i attended 3 stages of the Tour de France and i saw folks examining bikes for hidden motors and i walked by the tent and trailer where competitors submit their samples. It was enlightening.
Very, very wealthy dethroned has-been. Nice work if you can get it.
The thing is, we don’t actually know when his drug use started. And when I see that someone who admits, after vociferous denial and even lawsuits intended to bankrupt people who told the truth, use of a particular class of illegal drugs contracted a rare form of cancer that is a known risk of using those drugs, I’d say it at least shifts the burden of proof.
And as I said that since the entire USPostal team was in on that PED program as were a good deal of the pro peleton, I would have expected the incidence of that cancer to be quite a bit higher among them than the general non competitive cycling crowd… like I was.
But I do like your reasoning. You have valid points.
I was a big fan of Lance until … well before his admission of guilt… I understood his character. In some ways not unlike trump. I survived a different kind of cancer and i looked to Lance for inspiration. I still get angry at him.
