Just another day at Rep. Ferguson’s office.
Check the closet, probably find his KKK robe hanging there… Just another day in the Grifter party.
“This is a goddamn white Christian people country and ain’t no fucking n-bombs or other inferior darkies gonna take it from us!!!”
“Sir, you can’t say that and it’s now creating massive public backlash.”
“Golly gee gosh I’m sorry if anyone was offended and I didn’t mean nothin’ by it WINK WINK WINK WINK WINK WINK WINK. Hey Deborah, did that check from Daily Stormer clear at the bank yet?”
“The blacks are immeasurably better off here than in Africa, morally, societally, and physically. The painful discipline they are undergoing is necessary for their instruction as a race.”
Isn’t that from the 2016 GOP platform?
Unfortunately, for alot of them, the GOP helped them trade in their white robes for black robes, so it can get pretty confusing when you look in their closets. Especially someone like Alito…pretty sure you might find anything from human skin lampshades to his favorite Footloose-inspired leotard-and-sweatbands outfit in his closet…nothing off limits there…
It was just a book, not a tweet, so obviously no reason to resign.
“The blacks are immeasurably better off here than in Africa, morally, societally, and physically. The painful discipline they are undergoing is necessary for their instruction as a race.”
I legit laughed out loud at this because it’s exactly what the GOP believes today. In their words and policies, there is not a single ray of daylight between then and now. They believe they’re doing us a solid by attempting to discipline us out of the circumstances they created and continue to foster. They believe that by cutting safety net programs, creating “Opportunity Zones,” and criminalizing blackness that they’re helping us much the same as an abusive parent who beats the hell out their child believes they’re teaching the child. It’s a sickness.
To be fair, it’s been a plank since Reagan’s time.
There is a vast difference if he was a university historian who had it on his shelf as a reference versus a goober congressman who most likely pines for the lost cause.
And not a yearbook either; no harm, no foul.
He’s ashamed by the implication that he reads books.
When confronted about an office artifact glorifying a Virginia slaveowner who let a revolution against the US, Ferguson pointed to an artifact glorifying a Virginia slaveowner who was president of the US.
What does he mean by this? Is he saying, ‘see, your side is racist too?’
He just had it there for the historical significance. Didn’t mean anything racist by it.
I think he’s saying the earliest leaders of the country were racist so it’s ok to honor the later ones that thought we should stay a racist country and folks like him that want to take us back, you know Make America Great Again, if only for white folk.
These two quotes - don’t quite make sense:
Ferguson said in a statement that his staff had decorated the office and he did not know the book was there.
who put the book there, when decorating?
“When my staff learned about it, they removed it and apologized to the individual who was upset by it,” Ferguson said.
It sounds (at fast read) like this says when the staff learned about the book… they removed it and apologized. But he already threw the “staff” under the bus as being responsible for putting it there in the first place.
So on second read it appear to be one of those not really sorry appologies cuz its your fault you got offended. When they learned someone was upset buy it, then the apologized (ala “sorry you feel offended by this” - I imagine) and moved the book.
And there is NO way someone left the book open to that page, for display, by accident. Intention. Matters.
Why are these people ashamed of their racism yet at the same time so racist?
If they really believe this shit, why aren’t they out there trumpeting it? If they know it’s B.S. why do they cling to it so devoutly, sneak it into their offices like porn, and let themselves be caught over and over again drinking at this well?
Too bad the book caught their eye, they missed “Birth of a Nation”: Director’s Cut playing on the VCR.
