“We licensed the music we played. But if Mr. Zydeco wants to be a good socialist like Bernie Sanders, he might need to rethink the idea of private property,” Dirmann said in a statement.
Smart! License a song to start your campaign, then turn right around and attack the musician for being a pinko!
That campaign’s gonna go far!
Yeah, a little too unnecessarily antagonistic for someone that’s trying to drum up support for a new campaign. Not the best sign if you’re despised in your own state, no need to take it out on the citizens.
That sure is one snarky spokesperson. Maybe they should reconsider their career path.

Way to go, Governor Jindal! Show us how to reach out to one of your most famous African-American constituents!
The G.O.P. always keeps it classy. They know their base: people who are mean-spirited and vindictive. They want to punish someone - anyone - for whatever irks them.
It would be nice if one of these media outlets including TPM would mention that his name is Stanley Dural Jr. as well as his stage name of Buckwheat Zydeco.
I think Jindal should have chosen a song by a musician who actually likes the Governor.
Oh, wait…
Gov. Jindal:
Please take up the question of whether you are an immigrant or not with Ann Coulter. You clearly do not understand the difference between property rights and the First Amendment. You purchased the right to play the song, you didn’t purchase the right to have the musician approve of your using it.
Sincerely,
A Believer in Free Speech
More GOPers acting like they are above the law by stealing other people’s property.
You’d think these GOP maroons could find ONE musician who’d support their songs being used thus avoiding this kind of embarrassment.

And if Piyush wants to be a good Christian like he pretends to be, he needs to rethink the idea of kicking the downtrodden in the teeth, freeing the wealthy from their obligations as citizens, leaving children hungry and uneducated, letting people suffer without medical care that wouldn’t cost Louisiana a dime, and a whole host of inhumane actions that keep his state at the very bottom of the trash heap.
They’re pretty much limited to Ted Nugent, Meat Loaf, and Kid Rock. Maybe a few old school country artists as well.
PIYUSH: new driver for the Klown Kar!!
So we elect a democratic socialist and private property goes away?
At least the Jindal people were fastidious enough to pay for using the song. It’s like one little rubber duck of professionalism bobbing in an inky sea of suckiness, but most people don’t go to the trouble, they just use the damn tune without paying.
Perhaps the Battle Cry of Freedom (the Confederate version) is still up for fair use…since that’s how they roll. These Republican candidates could also use the Battle Hymn of the Republic if desperate enough I suppose. Kind of a throwback though…
Of course any Fife and Drum ditty would do.
Jindal is a big joke and it is only proper that he has joined the clown car
What makes me laugh is they paid the appropriate licensing fees and the artist objected anyway—they didn’t pay for him to hold his nose that hard. From what I read, Jindal is really, really, really unpopular at home.
I’ve always liked Buckwheat Zydeco’s music, great stuff. Now I admire the man himself.
