He was charged with property damage, disturbing the peace, and with a felony hate crime for verbally abusing uniformed officers of the New Orleans Police Department.
So there was no actual physical assault on the officers, just property damage and disturbing the peace?
Interesting charge, balanced against First Amendment rightsâŚ
Stupid law. Plus I donât believe it happened, that guy is too short to think he can get away with swearing at a cop. 5â8"âHa, ha, ha!!! Probably has small hands, too!
They passed a Blue Lives Matter law and yet no Black Lives Matter. What a horrible state to live in if you are a minority, Mississippi is another
Louisiana ranks close to 50th on damned near every quality of life component that can be measured. The nationâs incarceration rates could be drastically reduced if judges everywhere just sentenced you to go live in Louisiana. We could utilize it like the British use of Australia in the 18th and 19th centuries.
So they could declare their independence and force us to import âHush Puppie Dundeeâ movies?
Didnât someone mention âfascismâ on the GOP bromance w/Putin thread?
So, these officers believed a hate crime is when their feelings get hurt? Seriously? OMG, what does that say? LA, I believe you need to hold mandatory training seminars for ALL law enforcement personnel to inform them what a hate crime entails.
Considering it is Louisiana I have no empathy for the police. Their number one or two for police corruption.
As long as they donât go to New Orleans. New Orleans is a really awesome city.
ya think itâs bad now I lived in nawlins in the quarter in the 80âs now that was one big time corrupt police forceâŚya couldnât walk down the street without some cop tryin to pull some shit on youâŚ
Occupational rights. Woohoo! Conservatives advancing liberalism.
So, the Bundyâs, militias, Rush Limbaugh, and most members of the Republican Party can be brought up on charges for calling government employees âjackbooted thugs?â
Weâve won!
To be fair, making it a hate crime to offend the delicate sensibilities of police officers seems to have been the point of the new hate crime legislation.
WTF being so drunk and stupid that you curse and swear at a cop is a hate crime⌠What this tells me instead is that the cops are more like âbabies/little boysâ crying at hurt feelingsâŚ
And Iâm sure this will be enforced in the most evenhanded way possible: every well-off white guy who curses at an officer after being given a speeding ticket will no doubt also be hauled up on felony charges.
One of the problems with the way that laws are passed in the US is that there really isnât any penalty for enacting obviously-unconstitutional laws.
This is a law looking for people to break it.
Police lives are already protected. They carry guns and have bullet proof vests. They have immediate backup for assistance. If someone assaults or kill one, they pull out all stops to find the perp. When caught, the penalty is much worse than it would be had it been against an âordinaryâ citizen.
I just donât think it was necessary to create a special law for them when they already have provisions in place to insure they are above the rest of us. And the nonsense about someone calling them names is a violation? How ridiculous.
Harsh language is a felony now? Jeez.
Uh huhâŚa policeman can shoot a âsuspectâ because FREEEEDOOOMMMM but a potential criminal cannot call a policeman a âdumba$$â because it hurts their feelings? OOOOOKKKKKKKKK.
Who cares about the homeless guy, I want to see a mug shot of the âdumb a-- cââ or âdumb a-- n-----â arresting officer who has no inkling of the meaning of our constitution.
This is a ridiculous law, even among the pantheon of ridiculous laws. Police officers are already the most protected class of citizens in the entire country, except for maybe billionaires, with regards to legal matters.
