Discussion: Ky. County Clerk Again Refuses To Issue Same-Sex Marriage Licenses Despite SCOTUS Ruling

In other news, a Boise, Idaho DMV clerk announced yesterday that he would refuse to issue drivers’ licenses for religious reasons, because he feels people shouldn’t drive on the Sabbath. He was immediately fired and asked us to pass along his contact info if we know of any job leads.

Yes! These are the kind of folks who, after being jailed and fired, petition the court for immediate release. Based upon the premise that since the ‘injury’ was corrected by her replacement clerk, she should be sprung immediately and suffer no further consequences. Bull! Hope she gets a minimum of 90 days w/o bail and a huge fine.

Because God turned her down.

I can see public servants taking a stand as a matter of principle, but they do so by quitting, not by trying to collect a paycheck for not doing their job.

Assuming she doesn’t resign, the state lege would have to impeach her for her to lose her job before the next election. This might be the optimal face-saving move for her.

Looks like her issuance of a license to one couple already has gotten her a place is hell, so issuing license to new same sex couples should not have been a problem!

Further, her THREE DIVORCES have certainly secured her a front row seat in hell and so her ‘godly’ posturing is puzzling. No? … Perhaps her first three husbands “put her aside” for adultery; Jeebus’ said that was the only reason for it. Whatta’ slut! Stone her! Burn her at the stake! Whore! … Whoah, it’s easy to get carried away with that nonsense.

Our Christianist sinecure, erm, clerk, thought Jesus erred when he said all that stuff about rendering unto Caesar what is his.

Or it could just be that fifth of Jack Daniels Devil’s Cut in her desk drawer. That would explain the drawn blinds and the locked door. That stuff’s expensive! :stuck_out_tongue:

Can’t be fired. She’s an elected official who has to be impeached by the legislature. Which only meets for 60 days every two years (a constitutional provision many Kentuckians would like to see changed to “two days ever 60 years.”)

But she’s riding the Contempt Train now, sure enough.

Amen.

Now if we could get the pharmacists to do the same… You don’t have the right to withhold a valid prescription just because you believe something different.

This lady is clearly delusional. She’s not there to administer “God’s authority.” If the presiding judge does not slap her with contempt, jail her and fine the county appropriately, he will be derelict in his duties as well.

That’s okay. Looking over the comments here, it seems like most people would justifiably prefer to put her in jail. And if the key somehow gets lost, well, that would be okay too.

While not defending her, this is a little over the top rude.

I almost feel bad for Kim Davis - sure, she has supporters now, and they make her feel powerful. Some of them may even donate her money… for a while, anyway. However, this won’t end well for her. The groups supporting her cause don’t really care about individuals so much as the movement, and she’ll soon be tossed aside - after all, those hyper-conservative supporters have very short attention spans, and Donald Trump is running for President. Kim Davis will soon be back to square one - except this time, she won’t have a job.

Again, I almost feel bad for her… except she walked willingly into this. She wanted to get famous - now she’ll pay the price for her 15 minutes.

She is in clear violation of Kentucky revised statute 522.020. (http://www.lrc.ky.gov/statutes/statute.aspx?id=19888) and is guilty of a Class A misdemeanor, which is punishable by 90 days to 12 months in Jail and a fine of up to $1000.

The contempt process grinds out a bit slowly. First someone has to file a “show cause” motion. The judge then issues an order setting a hearing date. At that hearing, she’ll bear the burden of establishing why she shouldn’t be held in contempt. Then the judge will give her one more chance. Then she’ll blow it. Then there will be another hearing and, at that point, the prospect of fines and jail opens.

Her martyrdom will stretch out over a few more weeks, in other words, so there’s no point demanding that the process work faster than it does.

Um. She doesn’t take her faith TOO seriously, or she would remember 1 Timothy 2:12: “I do not permit a woman to teach or to assume authority over a man; she must be quiet.”

I don’t see any distinction about said man being gay or straight.

Typical Christian–pick one thing to hang your hat on, and forget all the other things.

An insult to the organ in question on several grounds.
