Discussion: Kushner Family Firm Accused Of Forcing Out Tenants With Rent Hikes, Endless Construction

From the description within the article, yes, 1000% to get people to move. In the 70s I purchased a 1928 apartment building and over the next couple of years remodeled all the apartments and public spaces. Not once did I have a current resident move. Not once did a resident complain about dust and noise. They did ask if we could modify some of our practices to help reduce both but understood what we were trying to do. We made sure the office doors were always open and that any resident could view the progress as desired. That alone seemed to reduce the stresses of construction and help folks build the patience needed as they could see progress and results. Yes, I eventually raised everyone’s rent but even then more than 90% of folks stayed and renewed their leases. Building eventually won an architectural award for the work we had completed. One of the very nicest things and one I was so proud we were able to do was to rehab the original blue/green terrazzo floors in the lobby and hallways. I eventually sold the building as condos with most/not all residents buying their unit. So from personal experience it can been done, just need the desire to do what is necessary. I bet if I’d go back to review costs there would not be a whole lot of difference my way vs what is described in the article. Reads as GREED run rampant.

I’ll go out on a limb here, and predict that you actually paid your contractors, rather than force them to sue you in court.

Jared Kushner and his diabolical family are used to being SLUMLORDS, it doesn’t bother them at all. They are every miserable stereotype in the book, felons, bloodsuckers, and community destroyers.

I’d run in the other direction rather than considering ruining my health and life by living in a Kushner building.

Also, the city’s building department says it sent inspectors to the building dozens of times since 2015 and uncovered no evidence that construction rules were being violated, a finding that some residents say doesn’t square with their experiences.

Gee, I wonder why the inspectors didn’t find any violations. You might want to pull their bank records.

Just to understand, what of the person who buys a condo here, and ends up living in this construct for some period of time? It would seem that there would be complaints from them also.

Kush has been known for a long time to be a slumlord
