Actually, they were not accepted as quickly as you think. “Einstein anticipated the impact of his paper, In May 1905, before the paper appeared in print, he informed his friend Conrad Habicht that a forthcoming paper on the properties of light was “very revolutionary.” From a modern perspective, at least three of Einstein’s 1905 papers were similarly innovative, but for Einstein in 1905, it was only the “assumption considered here [the March paper]” that represented a sharp break with established tradition. It was revolutionary at the time and it remained revolutionary. In June 1906, the future Nobel Prize-winning physicist Max Laue wrote to Einstein unequivocally denying Einstein’s assumption:”
Obviously Dr. Krauthammer believes that if you need an expert on climate science, look no further than a psychiatrist-turned-right-wing-political-columnist.
“He’s a well-educated man and knows full well climate change is a reality…”
No, I think he’s a well-educated psychiatrist who doesn’t recognize his own political self-delusion and has persuaded himself that all climate scientists are liberals plotting against America. His psychological need to be one of the Kool Kids among rightwing columnists is very overpowering.
Or, yes, he’s the most cynical psychiatrist/columnist in America.
Here’s the thing, though. He actually is really quite bright. He’s a full on partisan and I can’t for a second think he really believes what he said. The evidence is comprehensive and overwhelming and, regardless of what people here seem to think, Charles Krauthammer is not stupid. This is completely because either, a, he believes that keeping this pile of crap churning is good policy for the Repbulican party, either because it will continue to generate enormous cash flow from the energy industry, or b, he’s getting a huge pile of money from interests who are in the position to benefit from A. Difficult to make someone understand something when his salary depends on him not understanding it.
This guy’s commentary - always convoluted B/S - has gotten worse over the years. The crusty old fuck will be gone by the time the ravages of climate change are a reality even to the most ignorant . Hopefully he’ll have a marked grave, so my grandchildren can piss on it.
Krauthammer knows he’s too old to see the devastation climate change will cause; the unprecedented weather disasters, the famines, the wars, the deaths among those just born.
Where’s Richard Widmark when you really need him?
My redneck analysis of Krauthammer is much simpler. I think he’s just full of shit.
If Krauthammer is an MD, I think it’s obvious why he’s no longer practicing.
Meanwhile, Miami is drowning.
Heckuva job.
Good choice for hero.
Lots of that going around these days.
Einstein also vehemently opposed quantum physics–the most successful theory in the history of science.
The point of special and general relativity (and most science) is that the world in which we find ourselves is inherently counter-intuitive.
The problem for the right-wing is that they have created a religion around their beliefs. A religion that is as intuitive to them as the flat earth was to society in 1490.
It annoys me that people, including my relatives, watch this channel and think it’s true.
So much wrong in so few words.
Where to start…
I don’t see Krauthammer as believing in the rapture.
“Krauthammer: Climate Change Is ‘Superstition’ Like ‘The Rain Dance Of Native Americans’”
That Krauthammer is a journalist – or someone to be taken seriously in any context – “Is ‘Superstition’ Like ‘The Rain Dance Of Native Americans’…”
Hey Chucky- even the notoriously “liberal” Dallas Morning News had a feature on the front page about climate change. Keep hoping for that one silver bullet professor from Liberty U. to save the day for the denier crowd.
The physics argument was pretty dumb because it does not apply to climate change at all. The Theory of General Relativity did not repeal Newtonian physics, it just basically stated they are accurate within the framework of Earth and to an extent other places but do not account for everything.
It is a poor example of what he is trying to go for, science accepted proven wrong in the future. As the original rules still are used today and are accurate. They break down in quantum physics but most the rules we understand do.
Also, he is getting climate and weather mixed up. The temperature can be predicted a reasonable distance out, weather has more variables to it. The climate of a region is fairly easily predicted in general terms (Phoenix generally is more arid than Seattle). You can extrapolate out pretty well with general temperature trends so long as you are using the correct data. Real time is always harder. It is one of the reasons it is hard to perfectly correlate super storms with GW.
He did, but the thing is quantum physics is very different than other forms. Newtonian physics and Relativity have quite a bit in common unless you are going really fast. One just gave more depth to another and gave it the context it functioned under. It did not disprove it. Just like Quantum physics really does not disprove other more macro physical theories. It is a matter of system context.
