Discussion: Koch Brothers Group Fighting Detroit Bankruptcy Deal

Discussion for article #222933

Multi-Billionaires arguing forcefully in the public domain that American pensioners should be given nothing and likely sent to the poor house thereby fā€™ing up the local economy even further and causing even more social spending by the government to try to keep these folk out of the street, while the money owed to their own companies should be paid in full. Because liberty and freedom!

Iā€™m not sure how clearer a picture you can get on just how fā€™d up the American political system (and the party that supports these psychopaths, the Republicans) has become than this picture right here.

So bailouts (Excuse me ā€“ ā€œsettlementsā€) are horrible and badā€¦ but blackmail is hunky-dory. Got it.

ā€œā€¦Detroit has gotten enough of our tax dollarsā€¦ā€

The Koch brothers, on the other hand, want some more.

No, no! Bailouts are just fine when theyā€™re used to save the phony-baloney ā€œjobsā€ of multi-millionaire CEOā€™s and Wall Streeters. We just donā€™t want to see any public funds going to help any of ā€œthose peopleā€ (nudge-nudge, wink-wink).

ā€œThe organization, formed to fight big government and spending,ā€

Really TPM? you canā€™t do better than this? Way to frame an argument with no context.

The Koch brothers are one of the biggest threats to our country at this time. They are a racketeering organization designed for the purpose of stripping the country of its wealth and comity. Americans should shun these criminals and elect any candidate they oppose.

The Kochs are fundamentalists, as committed - and dangerous - in their ways as Al Qaeda is in theirs. Like their Hitler-admiring father before them, they see the ideal world as one of pure free market, where itā€™s kill or be killed, where ā€œfairnessā€ is, in and of itself, a weak and dangerous concept.

If the Democrats, from Obama on down, had an ounce of sense, theyā€™d focus on corralling the Koch-supported forces into that fence, so that the American public sees very clearly that these guys arenā€™t evil geniuses; theyā€™re religious fundamentalists, with wealth being their religion.

Fair enough. But who in the Democratic Party can organize anything coherent and all encompassing? Why is it that Reince Priebus is well known and often quoted on this blog, but his Democratic counterpart is not?

The democratic counter part would be Debbie Wasserman Schultz. Iā€™m not sure I got the spelling right, but I donā€™t think she is as unknown as you seem to suggest. I donā€™t think the messaging is really as hard as you seem to suggest either. Thanks for your concern though.

As if we didnā€™t already know, the Kochs are vile, despicable people this nation would be better served without.

Who the h*ell are the Kochs to tell Americans how to lived their lives in a democracy? They are meddlesome monsters, touting heartlessness and greed as the only ā€˜real American valuesā€™ when all these are are the Koch Brothersā€™ values. Ignore the monsters.

Dude, this is an AP story, not one written by TPM.

You can tell by the lack of typos or grammatical mistakes.

Oops! missed that, wouldnā€™t have mentioned it otherwise. Whew! I guess that means TPM is entirely without fault.

Are you claiming, Squirreltown, that this is NOT the way that the psychopaths behind Americans for the Prosperity of the 0.1% describe themselves?

I expect context from TPM. AP, not so much.
