Discussion: Koch-Backed Group Spokesman Likens Pope's Focus On Environment To Paganism

Discussion for article #240710

I wonder if these attacks on the Pope will cause some kind of schism within the Catholic oligarchy. I get that money has become the all encompassing focus for them but I honestly wonder how far they can push this “meme” of a false Pope that doesn’t worship the alter of capitalism?

Also, what is with the attacks on Pope Francis due to his understanding of climate change?

Matthew 6:24 English Standard Version (ESV)
24 “No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.[a]

That’s right, whip up the rhetoric and somebody will do your bidding and take the Pope out. He’s coming to America, if it’s going to happen, this is where it will happen. Then they’ll all claim it was just some mentally disturbed nut.

But HE is the one worshiping the Almighty Dollar.

The folks at The Heartland Institute should talk to the folks at Exxon: http://climatecrocks.com/2015/09/16/they-knew-frontline-investigation-reveals-exxon-studied-climate-change-in-the-70s/

“What is environmentalism but nature worship?”

Uh, I dunno–wanting the Earth to be able to continue sustaining life?

Pardon the expression, but Holeeee Jeesus! The Kochs think they have the power and the standing to attack the Pope’s christianity and link him to paganism?

I mean, yeah, that shit will play well with the fundie evangelical protestants who still adhere to the old Puritan linkage of Catholicism and idolatry, but there’s no need to try to get those people to ignore the Pope.

Seriously, do the Kochs really believe their grip on conservative minds is so powerful that they can win a dogma fight for the minds of practicing Catholics? Do their metrics and charts and dial groups really led them to believe they can win that fight?

And, again, pardon the expression, but whom the gods would destroy, they first make proud . . .

Dearly beloved, we are gathered here to proclaim a new, Improved! religion based on the Divine beauty and purity of Capitalism. There is no heaven or hell. The living rejoice in golden trinkets, and the dead rot in the ground. The one with the most holdings must be the smartest and he shall lead all others into diminished expectations. He who dies with the most toys wins. All others are losers. We shall hold true to our faith, even as The Earth votes us off the planet. For what good is clean air and water and food when there is money to be made?

This was going to be my comment, too. Worshiping golden calves has traditionally found disfavor in mainline Judeo-Christian tradition.

Bring more candles, your Holiness! Lots and lots of candles!

Good God (pardon the expression), does this fool have it backward! It was the Roman Catholic Church that appropriated numerous Pagan beliefs, stories and rituals so they could convince as many of the non-Catholics as possible to join the newly-formed “church.” Paganism goes back many (MANY) more generations than Christ-recorded history itself. Don’t these Republicans know anything?

As a non-Catholic, non-religious person, this is one where I’m rooting for Pope Francis.

Hey! – I see what you did there! – You took that right out of the Republican Party Platform! I recognize that stuff anywhere.

LOL. I totally forgot that since Saint Ronnie, the Highest Holy Fuck, defunded education–especially to the inner-city children–that the GOP has fought tooth and nail to keep their congregation dumber than the poorest females in modern ISIS.
