Discussion: Kobach Won't Recuse Himself If His Own Race Goes To A Recount

You have to give the Republicans some credit.
They don’t even try to pretend any more that rules and ethics matter.

This seems ripe for a court filing to force Kobach to recuse himself. Clearly he has a conflict of interest.

Perhaps the Federal Judge who ordered him to go back and take some more law classes should include a class on Conflicts of Interest.

But then it is all to clear that Kobach is profoundly ignorant of the law and just doesn’t give a damn!

Good. If Kobach ends up being the candidate then the Democrat might have a chance.

Not surprising. I was betting this asshat would not recuse himself, even though the SoS oversees the integrity of elections and recounts.

Republicans … don’t even try to pretend any more that rules and ethics matter.

True, as long as you’re a Republican.
If, on the other hand, you’re a Democrat, Reactionaries will freely use rules and ethics to engineer even the slightest advantage.
I look forward to seeing how a colleague reacts to getting their party’s SOP.

I wish, but not gonna happen

Is there a Republican left who isn’t terminally tacky?

This is just arrogance. Even if Kobach is correct that there isn’t any discretionary role for the Secretary of State (and it appears that this isn’t correct), he should be avoiding even the appearance of conflict and recuse himself.

Seriously, Kansas?

Have you by any chance had your water supply tested lately?

Do so…

When it comes to voter fraud, Kobach alone can fix it.

Who doesn’t think he’ll be rigging it for himself?

“Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach will not recuse himself from a potential Kansas Republican gubernatorial primary recount — despite being in the race himself.”

A foreshadowing of how Trump imagines he’ll fire the entire DOJ and investigate himself in the end.

Only to be rudely yanked back to reality – screaming – from his fevered hallucinations of escaping justice.

People have been tiptoeing around this issue, but Kansas is getting bluer. It actually is plausible that Kansas becomes a purplish state at least for some offices. It is not a crazy thing to say that Democrats could end up winning a majority of the Kansas congressional delegation plus the governorship. I happen to think we’ll win KS-02 behind Paul Davis with KS-03/KS-04 as tossups. KS-03 has a better PVI from a Dem perspective so if Davids can consolidate the Democratic vote and build an appeal to suburban independents she might win too.

This guy, with his arrogance and complete lack of ethics, would be a nightmare in the Governor’s mansion. So much so, Kansans will long back at Brownback bankrupting the state and destroying education as the good old days.
