Discussion: Kobach Wanted Trump To Incentivize States To Adopt Proof Of Citizenship

Of course Kobach thought this was a baited hook Fat Nixon would bite on with gusto! It has all the titillating components of racism and bigotry, hurting the poor, marginalizing Democrats, ensuring that suburban and rural 'pubs get more access to the polls - it’s a white supremacist’s dream!

the only surprise is that King Tub didn’t jump on the plan. Perhaps if Kobach had dressed it in a g-string and cut-out bra…

Kobach’s idea was that a hypothetical newly amended NVRA would waive the requirement that states make it as easy and convenient as possible for people to register to vote for those states that adopt a proof of citizenship voter registration requirement.

Between Donnie and Kobach, their combined IQ wouldn’t equal the recommended tire pressure on my car.

The original NVRA encouraged states to adopt same-day registration by waiving for those states some of the NVRA’s provisions. Kobach’s idea was that a hypothetical newly amended NVRA would have provisions that would be waived for states if they adopt a proof of citizenship voter registration requirement.

Their deviousness knows no bounds; just another concerted effort to gerrymander “democracy” in America.

Hearkening back for a moment, as best I can figure the blatant “contemporary” assault on our government began when Newt Gingrich declared open war on truth and intelligence, calling for the defunding of public television by claiming it had a liberal bias. Indeed, were it not for a super-hero named Fred Rogers PBS would not exist today.

Next came “Hot Tub” Tom Delay and his aggressive (and successful) plan to redistrict every state possible to ensure foolproof Republican elections, which is only now beginning to be undone. Along with this came the curious adoption of electronic voting, a system for which there was seemingly no real need other than preventing poorly designed ballots triggering Brooks Brothers riots resulting in indefensible Supreme Court decisions. Oh, and introducing the best election hack since stuffing ballot boxes.

Next came Obama Hysteria and “rampant illegal voting,” a myth that, thanks to social media, was hyped until it became Real!™ without a scintilla of evidence.

Fear and loathing encompassed the elites of the elite. “What if people actually took charge of their lives, their country?” they wondered. And so they birthed a high-dollar effort to support the myth of illegal voting, and the media dutifully gave it legs.

With his announcement of a (second) presidential bid, Porn Star Prez quickly tied his racism into his “the election is rigged, folks” campaign performance. And the crowd went wild.

Now we have two interlocked issues winding its way through the courts: Too-blatant-by-half gerrymandering and the myth of the illegal voters.

If nothing else, you have to admire their tenacity.

I think the thing that kills me is that we already have a pathetically low participation rate among registered voters, on top of a pathetically low rate of voter registration, and this clown is spending taxpayer money to dream up ways to further lower those rates. He seeks, with great enthusiasm, to silence the voices of those who care enough to register and vote, because apparently, his version of democracy involves fewer people making decisions for the majority of people. And preferably, the fewer people who ultimately are allowed to vote are supposed to be those who share his party’s political views.

I wonder what it would be like to live in a country whose leaders encourage voter participation and incentivize states to grow their voter rolls.

That seems a bit high to me.

Lemme make sure I understand.

The same government that liberally taxes citizens insists citizens obtain an eligibility to vote from the same government?

No thanks.

No taxation without representation.

@maximus is a good Roman. He measures his tire inflation pressure in megapascals.

(A 35 psi tire inflation pressure is about 0.25 MPascals.)

Kobach and Putin seem to have the same idea about democracy, it’s great as long as their side is guaranteed to win.

Have you seen the Access Hollywood tape of Billy Bush riding along with Trump when he tried to vote in 2004?

Kobach is actually a Harvard (summa cum laude) and Oxford (PhD) graduate - he isn’t stupid, just supremely bigoted and evil.

Your last sentence. Exactly.

Our democracy is hanging by a thread.

What a waste of intellect. Or, perhaps those credentials are undeserved? People do slip through the cracks from time to time.

I mean, this crusade he’s on has been like a parade of doofus from the start. About the only credit he might deserve is for persistence.

Knock me over with a feather. The antics he pulls, the logic he applies is so twisted that he is either dumb - or - thinks everyone else - including sitting judges - is so dumb that they would accept that logic. Given your reminder of his credentials - I would add to your list “egregiously arrogant”.

Well if he isnt stupid, he is doing quite a good impression of being so…the performance in court on this case is cringe worth.
