In the proposed agreement laid out in Thursday’s filing, Kobach agreed to send the notice, allow affected voters to vote by standard ballot rather than provisionally, and update the online public database with those voters’ information. However, the state will be allowed to mark within its internal database which voters registered without proof of citizenship. The state will also be allowed to list those voters’ names in a secondary pollbook in counties that keep paper pollbooks, with elections workers instructed to check the secondary list if a voter’s name is not present in the principal pollbook.
That’s some byzantine shit, right there…I’m sure the voters will be none the wiser if Kobach gets even a slight way towards his achieving any objective in suppressing Democratic votes. Thanks ACLU. You really caved on this asshole. He should’ve been left to be held in contempt imo. That’s how most of the country feels about him anyway.
Kris Kobach is evil. He likes to write laws and get them inacted in states other than his own. He wrote SB1070 the Arizona “papers please” law.
Just a nasty man.
If I were a vindictive soul I would make Kobach have to personally go to every affected voter and apologize. Not gonna happen but I can dream can’t I?
So they kind of got to disprove the need for proof by not having to prove what was previously verifiable proof.
One thing is for sure, Kobach has motivated at least 18,000 voters to show up and vote against everything that he stands for.
What is Kobach’s actual job?
Oh thank goodness. For a minute there it was looking like he might be held accountable for his malfeasance.
Kobach will probably take the same approach as Governor Abbott in Texas (1) - agree to a court order about voter ID, then ignore the order while trying to run out the clock until election day.
This was Standard Operating Procedure under Jim Crow until the VRA was passed. Now that prior review is dead, the old play book is again effective.
Well, for the Full Voting Rights for Illegals Coalition, today was not a good day. Today, we have a proven case of a non-citizen who is a terrorist and who voted in 3 elections. We should call these laws “Arcan Cetin’s Law”, since that is the name of the mall murderer, who is a Turkish permanent resident who has been on the voting rolls for 12 years.
As Scooby-Doo might say, Ruh-Roh.
That’s one. Vs the 18,000 legit voters Kobach would keep off the rolls. No contest.
First of all, the massacre appears to have been the result of a break up, committed by an individual with a prior record of domestic disputes and violence, not terrorism. Although since he is of Turkish origin, you probably feel you can assume he is a terrorist. But you know what happens when you assume things. Second of all, he is not an illegal or undocumented, so the whole grand premise for your comment is false. Third of all, the conclusion that he has voted in 3 elections is being reported mainly in the likes of the Washington Times and the Daily Caller, which are right wing rags not particularly known for or concerned with factual accuracy. Fourth of all, he is TWENTY years old. So according to you, and your assuming, he has been voting since he was younger than 8 years of age, because he has already voted in 3 elections prior to this coming election. Ruh Roh indeed.
The guy can’t be trusted. If there is even a little room for him to pull some last minute antics to keep people from voting he will do it. The agreement better be iron clad, with every detail worked out and verified in advance.
ACLU - “Kris Kobach is a racist POS.”
Kris Kobach - “Yes, I am.”
This is only a tactical retreat by Kobach, but it’s still a HUGE victory for voting rights in the upcoming election.
Basically he was getting his ass kicked and he knew it, but he reserves the right to come back for another ass-whooping after the election. So be it.
He killed 5 people. With a fucking rifle. He’s a fucking terrorist. WHat kind of moronic crap is your response?
So, Richard Speck was a terrorist? Charles Manson was a terrorist? Ted Bundy was a terrorist? The moronic crap came from you. You have no idea if he is a terrorist and the reporting not associated with Right Wing propaganda rags is that he is a deranged person with a past domestic violence record reacting to a break up, Your supposition that he is a terrorist comes from his ethnicity and the point you are trying to pull out of your posterior about Illegals voting in any significant numbers…
