Duh. Iām not aware of any police department in the country that responds to someone just calling them up and saying āhey, weāre gonna go protest somewhere and since weāre totally offensive and planning on doing and saying things that are likely to cause a fight, you need to send out a squad car or three to protect usā by saying āwhy sure, Hillbilly Jim, weāve got nothing better to do than babysit you without having some advanced warning or you obtaining a permit, etc.ā
It just cannot work that way. Iām sure Anaheim has a process for these thingsā¦getting permits for rallies or protests or requesting police details for civilian stuff that you think might be well served by their presence. Iām sure that process is not ācall us a couple hours ahead of your planned protest or rally or deliberate instigation and weāll be happy to mess up the dayās schedule and duty roster for your personal needs and to assure your safety.ā
This all being said, all I can do is SMH and think what a bunch of fucking idiots about the people who attacked these bigots. If you march on behalf of hatred and violence, thatās a choice you cannot blame on others. Cops are under no obligation to provide hate groups with a peremptory shield.
Constitution does not say you have rights to free speech and assembly unless you are a scumbag. Sometimes our rights are jackass detectors. In this case it worked well on both sides. As a society we have nothing to fear from overt KKK types, we do have to fear from closeted KKK types.
