King said he has faced backlash from constituents for pushing for Russia to face consequences. “My problem is I talk to people in Maine that say, ‘The whole thing is a witch-hunt and hoax because the president told me.'”
No sympathy. These are the people who elected Paul LePage governor – twice!
Will you please stop gratuitously crapping on the democrats who stand between you and an even worse disaster? If they were like leftist trolls, they would just go home and let republicans enact whatever, but instead they have a basic sense of responsibility.
King could be hearing from those who didn’t vote for him. LePage didn’t get a majority of the vote in either election because of other challengers being on the ballot
2014 Paul LePage had won re-election to a second term, defeating Democratic Congressman Mike Michaud and independent candidate Eliot Cutler. He received 48.2% of the vote.
2010 LePage the winner, carrying 38.1% of the votes. Independent Cutler was in second place with 36.7% of the votes (fewer than 7,500 votes behind LePage), while Democrat Mitchell was a distant third with 19%. Moody and Scott had 5% and 1%, respectively. LePage is the first popularly elected, Franco-American governor of Maine and the first Republican since John R. McKernan Jr.'s re-election
Hard as it may be, it’s best to ignore this one. He’s simply a provocateur who knows we’ll take the bait, and after taking the challenge, he’ll end his remarks by calling you Einstein. Personal experience tells me this.
The ADMINISTRATION cannot do anything with elections and how they are carried out. The DOJ and SCOTUS on the other hand, can, but only if presented with a clear case showing constitutional rights are being violated, and even then, this previous SCOTUS allowed the special relief noted in the Voting Rights Act against many Southern States to EXPIRE.
So, what exactly was the Obama Administration supposed to do that it didn’t do? Complain to the SCOTUS and DOJ more?
Contrary to Reich-Wing Propaganda, Obama was not a King.
Coats was less coy, saying that 9-11 had happened because of a similar failure of intelligence.
Pretty fucking astounding to see that and think, it truly appears that the last 2 republican presidents allowed the US to come under foreign attack to try and boost their popularity. And then think back about Reagan and Iran. Holy fucking shit.
Seems like reality just bit you and scared the crap out of you.
Bush Sr almost adopted a son named, Osama Bin Laden. Cared for him deeply and walked him right into the pentagon when he was training him. The good ole FBI days.
Search the history on that one and you are just warming up.
Ah, as an executive branch agency, the DOJ is part of the administration, so claiming the administration can’t do anything, but then claiming DOJ can do something, is self-contradictory. I seriously don’t even know what you think you’re talking about other than that you’re flailing about in some sort of paroxysm of knee-jerk Obama-defense. I think I was more than gracious with my comments differentiating between the legal and practical realities he faced. Moreover, saying he should or could have done something more should not automatically be interpreted as a statement that he could have decreed something or issued an order.or even just waved a magic Obamawand and fixed everything all by himself. There are plenty of potential actions a POTUS has at his fingertips that are not necessarily acts of wielding his constitutional powers, but can be extremely effective in bringing about change…sometimes…when you’re not faced with what he faced (as I already acknowledged).
I have to strongly disagree with #3. The Republicans are a huge threat, but they are able to impose their dangers within the Democratic framework (abetted by US institutions which privilege rural areas and smaller states). There is a democratic way people can combat them. By showing up for elections instead of whining about how the Democratic candidate isn’t perfect.
What the Russians are doing is far more insidious and far more dangerous. Their actions undermine the democratic process completely to the point that there really isn’t anything one can do to resolve them democratically.
But either way, it’s not an either/or question. The Russian threat needs to be dealt with through the intelligence and security agencies (supported by the government). The Republican threat needs to be dealt with at the ballot box.
